Throughout the month of September, 888poker added tremendous value to many of its tournaments by boosting the prize pool of its most popular tournaments. These tournaments were dubbed "Special Edition" tournaments - and as you might have guessed - applied to two of its most popular Sunday tournaments in The Mega Deep and The Sunday Challenge.
Throughout the summer, The Mega Deep featured a healthy $100,000 guarantee, while The Sunday Challenge boasted a very reasonable $75,000 guarantee. With poker players returning from their summer holiday and playing in higher numbers during September, 888poker wisely raised the guarantees of both these tournaments.
The Mega Deep was first increased to a $120,000 guaranteed prize pool on Sept. 6 before being increased once again to an even bigger $150,000 guarantee. The Sunday Challenge was also increased to a $100,000 guaranteed prize pool, which it kept throughout the month. Despite the increase in guarantees, the buy-ins remained the same at $215 for The Mega Deep and $90 with one rebuy allowed in The Sunday Challenge.
The biggest winner in September in these two weekly tournaments was "Monster_Dong", who outlasted a field of 871 players on Sept. 13 in The $150,000 Mega Deep - Special Edition! to win the top prize of $31,356. Not too far behind was "IbetUfold_x", who won this tournament on Sept. 27 for $31,356.
Other winners in this tournament include "Madeon1994", banking $30,408 on Sept. 6 when the tournament featured a $120,000 guaranteed prize pool, and Portugal's Pedro "mrgruger" Goncalves, who won $29,032 on Sept. 20.
The biggest winner in the $100,000 Sunday Challenge 1R - Special Edition! was "InJeBakkes", who cashed for $22,100 when finishing on top of a field of 898 players on Sept. 13. American poker refugee Brandon "tedwho1" Merrill snagged $15,961 for finishing in second place in that tournament.
Other winners in the Sunday Challenge include "YourNemeis" shipping $21,249 on Sept. 6, Sweden's Dennis "CasinoPro888" Berglin banking $20,286 on Sept. 20, and "RockBlake" claiming $19,952 on Sept. 27.
