PokerNews Cup Kicked Off Tonight at King's Casino with 20,000 Opening Event
The PokerNews Cup kicked off its 11-event schedule at King's Casino in Rozvadov, Czech Republic, on Wednesday with the 120 buy-in PokerNews Cup Opening Event. This tournament features a generous 20,000 prize pool, and at the time of this article being written, there were over 150 entrants with many more still expected as late registration continues until around midnight.
The Opening Event provides a deep structure with 12,000 in starting chips and 25-minute blinds. Despite this, with blinds at just 150/300, nearly 50 players have already busted out of the tournament.
PokerNews was at King's Casino earlier in the month to cover the World Series of Poker Circuit (WSOPC) events, and on the first break of the opening event, we bumped into a familiar face in Romania's Dan Hila. Hila, in fact, has been here off and on for over a month, and we were interested in what he has been up to in Rozvadov.
Hila shared with us that he has been in Rozvadov since Oct. 13 and have played through a few different poker series.
"When I'm not playing live, I am also playing online, hanging out with friends, and visiting family 200 kilometers away in Germany," he said. "There is always something to do, but have been in and out of Rozvadov frequently."
The highlight of the poker festival begins on Thursday, Nov. 18, with the first of the four opening days to the PokerNews Cup Main Event. The remaining opening days take place on Nov. 19-20 with surviving players moving on in hopes to etch their name in history by winning the trophy and the top cash prize. It is anticipated that players will turn up throughout Europe due to the huge 200,000 prize pool for just a 250 entry fee.
Currently, the chip leader in the event is Thomas Reichheuzer with about five-times the starting stack or approximately 60,000 in chips.
"I only play in events once or twice a year," Reichhuezer told PokerNews, before telling us what he does a living. "I work in a casino."
In addition to the spectacular PokerNews Cup poker schedule, no-limit hold'em and pot-limit Omaha ring games will be spread at different limits nonstop at King's Casino.
You can read about all the events on the schedule on our live blog or learn how you can win one of the last seats to the Main Event in live satellites at King's Casino. Our live reporting crew will be commencing our live reporting at 20:00 CET tomorrow with the start of Day 1a of the PokerNews Cup Main Event.
