2016 APAT WCOAP

One of the most eagerly anticipated poker festivals of the year, the 2016 World Championship of Amateur Poker (WCOAP), is right around the corner and is set to be the biggest in its history; think of it as a mini World Series of Poker for recreational players.

Aspers Casino in Stratford, London, is the place to be if you are wanting to compete in one of the 22 bracelet-awarding events from March 19-28, the latter being the Easter Monday bank holiday.

Buy-ins for the majority of the Championship events are 55, and each will award its winner a coveted WCOAP bracelet. There are a few tournaments commanding larger buy-ins, though, including a 110 buy-in for the No-Limit Hold'em Team Championship and the World Amateur Poker Championship, and a 220 buy-in for the High Roller Championship.

Kicking off the 2016 WCOAP is a 55 No-Limit Hold'em Championship tournament and the inaugural 110 buy-in 8-Game Players Championship, which takes place over the course of two days.

On the schedule, which you can find below, you can find several no-limit hold'em formats, including six-max, ante-only and a one-rebuy/one-add-on (1R1A). Plus, a host of variants are provided such as open-face Chinese, pot-limit Omaha, Omaha hi-low, seven-card stud, razz, H.O.R.S.E, Irish poker, and even an event tailored for cash-game players.

While all of the 2016 WCOAP are likely to be popular, it is the 110 World Amateur Poker Championship that every APAT member wants to get their hands on. There are two starting flights for this event and whoever gets their hands on the title also wins a trip to Las Vegas during June 2016.

In 2015, Daniel Lewis of Wales topped a field of 397 players in the World Amateur Poker Championship and took home a trip to Las Vegas and 8,500 in prize money. On top of the prize money and the added Las Vegas package, the player deemed to be the best individual player during the 2016 WCOAP wins a WCOAP Passport for 2017, which awards a 110 Main Event seat and entry to two 55 buy-in side events.
