Sunday Briefing: Huge Wins at PokerStars and partypoker
There was a plethora of massive scores in this weekend's Sunday online tournaments thanks to increased traffic generated by the PokerStars Sunday Million 10th Anniversary tournament, and the partypoker Powerfest drawing to a close.
By far the largest win, as you would imagine, stemmed from the $10 million guaranteed Sunday Million, which ended with a four-way chop. Argentina��s "canario508" finished fourth and banked $560,000, with South Korea's "prophetdream" falling one place deeper for $678,517.78. The runner-up was Bulgaria's "mladenova62" who secured a $650,000 payday, but it was Canada's "a.urli" who finished on top of the pile, a finish worth a life-changing $970,000.
Also on PokerStars, Lithuania's "Mr. Bicus" came out on top of 2,903 entrants in the Sunday Warm-Up for a cool $91,445.24, with "mayanfactor" being the runner-up for $68,220.50. German superstar Philipp "philbort" Gruissem busted in 10th place for $3,628.75.
In the Sunday Supersonic, "thehushpuppy" turned $215 into $70,685.94 in less than two hours, while Fedor "CrownUpGuy" Holz took down the Sunday 6-Max for $30,175.55 after besting a final table that included Stephen "stevie444" Chidwick. Chidwick finished fourth for $11,709.75.
Another established player triumphed in the Sunday 2nd Chance, with Dan "djk123" Kelly emerging victorious. The Australian-based American got his hands on the $60,796.93 first-place prize in the early hours of Monday morning.
Special mentions also to "NikolasDLP" for winning the Sunday Rebuy for $46,462.50, a tournament that Steve "Mr. Tim Caum" O��Dwyer finished second in for $33,453 and Faraz "The-Toilet 0" Jaka finished fourth in for $18,585.
Lastly for the PokerStars results are those from the Sunday 500. This week's event came to an end with a three-handed chop involving former world online No. 1 Joao "joaoMathias" Mathias (3rd - $61,708.57), Diego "Die Ventura" Ventura (2nd - $62,260.84), and winner "micide" (1st - $74,430.59).
A Powerful Powerfest from partypoker
Onto partypoker now where the final events of its Powerfest massively exceeded expectations.
Its $500,000 guaranteed Week 4 Main Event saw 928 entries and a prize pool of $928,000. This ended with a heads-up chop with "DipesLIVES" claiming the victory and $152,396.17 and Ivan "ivanvilchez8" Vilchez being the runner-up and winning $136,211.83.
The $5,200 Powerfest #98 was the first time partypoker had run such a large buy-in event in several years, but won't be the last if this latest one is anything to go by. Some 186 entries were process, making a prize pool of $930,000 �� $430,000 more than the guarantee �� and it ended in a four-way chop involving:
- "Watnlos88" �� 1st for $146,107.14
- "dafuqisdis" �� 2nd for $138,305.67
- "SODA1RA" �� 3rd for $127,012.92
- "st_solo" �� 4th for $123,324.27
In the final Powerfest event of the series, a $530 buy-in tournament with a $200,000 guarantee, Dylan "walter1963" Linde claimed $60,360.41 after a three-handed chop involving runner-up Denis "DBerglin" Berglin ($55,939.61) and "ilovedogs9" ($52,277.48).
Shout out also to "MGVJohanS" who took down the $150,000 guaranteed Main Event for $30,548.79.
More Dealmaking Done at 888
Over at 888poker, there was more chopping of prize pools. The $120,000 Mega Deep saw the final three players split the remaining prize pool as the clocks moved past 7:30 a.m. GMT on Monday morning. Gavrilla "moakaa" Gabriel came out on top for $29,756.12, "Engineer_757" claimed $24,465.05, and Bahar "bah23" Musa finished third for $23,597.23.
Germany's "CrystalMad" walked away with $46,911.95 after outlasting 437 players in the $150,000 Whale, while Vilchez, fresh from his runner-up finish in the partypoker Powerfest Week 4 Main Event, won the $100,000 Sunday Challenge for $24,729.48 under the alias "ivanascasubi."
Full Tilt Wraps Up the Weekend
Completing the Sunday Briefing for another week are the doffs of the cap to "PureNutella" and "aynin" who won the Sunday Brawl and Sunday Major for scores of $7,628.52 and $10,288.67, both at Full Tilt.
