Global Poker Index: Steve O��Dwyer Continues to Set Pace As Top Tenners Play GPL

All was calm at the top of the overall Global Poker Index rankings this week as the top 10 remained exactly the same and Steve O��Dwyer extended his stay atop the list for a 14th-straight week.
Among this group at the top, sixth-ranked Dominik Nitsche has been in action this week representing the Berlin Bears in Global Poker League matches, taking first and second in two Eurasia Conference six-max matches on Tuesday, then winning one of three heads-up games yesterday versus the Moscow Wolverines�� Vladimir Troyanovskiy (currently ranked No. 51 in the GPI).
Seventh-ranked Fedor Holz of the L.A. Sunset also played in one of the Americas Conference six-max matches yesterday, taking third.
Meanwhile today the New York Rounders�� Jason Mercier, currently No. 4 in the GPI rankings, will be taking on Phil Galfond (currently No. 603 in the GPI) of the San Francisco Rush in a three-game heads-up match starting at 3:30 p.m. EDT.

There were only five new names in this week��s GPI top 300, the fewest number of newcomers to the list in recent memory.
David Stefanski is the highest-ranked of the group after moving up from No. 301 to No. 239. Stefanski recently chopped the 2016 Foxwoods Poker Classic $2,700 Main Event with Andrew Kaplan to earn a bundle of points and send him back onto the top 300 list.

Stefanski��s upward move earned him a spot as well on this week��s ��Biggest Gains�� list, topped by Josh Beckley who jumped up from No. 264 to No. 188.
The 2015 World Series of Poker Main Event runner-up picked up another second-place finish this week in a $1,650 buy-in preliminary no-limit hold��em event in the World Poker Tour Seminole Hard Rock Showdown, enabling him to crack the top 200 of the GPI for the first time in his career.

Speaking of the Global Poker League, Rome Emperors manager Max Pescatori took the biggest tumble of any of this week��s top 300 ranked players this week, slipping from No. 135 to No. 208.
What to Expect Next Week
That aforementioned WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown series continues this week in Hollywood, Florida, as does the Mid-States Poker Tour Colorado series in Black Hawk. The 2016 Seneca Niagara Falls Western New York Poker Challenge kicks off tomorrow as well.
