Making it through to Day 2 on May 15 were 190 players, each in the money and having locked up $330, which included a $109 ticket to a future GPPT stop. Eight hours after the action commenced on Day 2, the nine-handed final table was set where the guaranteed payout had increased to $3,000.
John Burns was the first casualty at the final table, committing his stack with the A?Q? and getting somewhat unlucky to run into the dominating A?K? of Kirkland. Anthony Gray fell soon after in a battle of raggedy cards with Paul McTaggart.
Chris Bartlett then saw his A?Q? lose a coinflip against the 10?10? of Ryan Pearson to fall in seventh place, before McTaggarts K?K? held to beat the A?8? of Mark Armstrong to leave only six players in contention.
With only six players remaining, McTaggart was one of the favourites due to his online prowess, but he was the next player eliminated. A raise by another talented Scot, Jonathan Gray, was called by McTaggart in the big blind, who then check-called a 500,000 bet on the J?3?2? flop, and a 1,050,000 bet on the 9? turn. McTaggart checked for a third time on the 3? river, then called when Gray set him all in. McTaggart flipped over the Q?J?, but Gray had the A?A?, sending the former home in fifth place.
Lauris Kulins fell in fourth place when his Kx9x failed to connect with the five community cards, and Jonathan Grays AxJx caught an ace on the turn, before Jonathan Grays 7?7? held against Pearsons A?K? to send the tournament into the heads-up stage.
Jonathan Gray held a substantial 22,500,000 to 11,700,000 chip lead over Kirkland, but that lead was soon reversed when Jonathan Grays 6?6? lost to Kirklands A?K? with the latter pairing his king on the turn, before another pair versus ace-king, this time the 8?8? against the A?K? went a similar way with the board running J?6?7?K?4? to send Jonathan Gray to the sidelines, and leave Kirkland to be crowned the GPPT Glasgow champion.
