YouStake Performance of the Week: Rainer Kempe Wins $5 Million
A new feature on PokerNews, the YouStake Performance of the Week will be coming at you each and every week this summer, on Friday, and is designed to highlight great performances on the felt from Las Vegas during the 2016 World Series of Poker.
YouStake.com is a fully integrated sports staking platform that allows the masses to invest in skilled sports players for entry in live events. The company recently made headlines when it acquired the poker staking platform TastyStakes.com.
This week, no one exemplified success more than German Rainer Kempe.
Kempe etched his name in the annals of poker history Wednesday night by taking down the 2016 Super High Roller Bowl for $5 million at the ARIA Resort & Casino in Las Vegas. He beat fellow German Fedor Holz heads-up and a final table that included legends of the game Erik Seidel and Phil Hellmuth, high roller regular Bryn Kenney, hedge fund manager Dan Shak, and high-stakes cash game startup Matt Berkey, on the way to capturing the Super High Roller Bowl crown.
Kempe ultimately outlasted a field of 49 of the best and most richest players on the planet, nursing a relatively short stack throughout most of the tournament until he sprung into action late, winning a huge pot on the final-seven bubble when he flopped set over set against high roller veteran Dan Smith.
Smith busted on the bubble soon after, and Kempe rolled into the final table with a healthy chip lead, never really looking back. In fact, he fell only briefly out of the top spot on the counts heads up with Holz, before regaining his composure, the chip lead and booking the win.
Kempe may not be a household name in the poker community just yet, but a $5 million win in a high-profile event with live televised coverage on the CBS Sports Network should go a long way towards building him into one.
Only adding to his growing legend, Kempe was even back at it the next day, firing away in the $565 Colossus II at the 2016 WSOP, in the hunt for another seven-figure win in an event that a field size record last year.
This move showed a lot of love for the game and dedication to his craft. Add in the multi-million dollar win and Rainer Kempe was the easy and obvious choice for the YouStake Performance of the Week.
