Simon "C Darwin2" Mattsson Top Dog in the PocketFives Rankings For the Fifth Time
Sweden's Simon "C Darwin2" Mattsson has once again passed Brazil's Joao "joaosimaobh" Simao to become the top ranked online poker player in the world for the fifth time this year, according to the PocketFives Worldwide Online Poker Rankings.
Nailing down the top spot in the rankings on five different occasions in a calendar year is far from a record. Back in 2013, American poker refugee Calvin "cal42688" Anderson was king of the hill in the rankings eight different times. Not surprisingly, British poker sensation Chris "moorman1" Moorman, who was the top ranked player on 13 different occasions from 2008 to 2014, holds the record for being the top ranked player the most times since PocketFives has been awarding this accolade beginning in 2005.
Mattsson's latest ascension to the top of the rankings came thanks to three big scores on partypoker. On June 30, the Swede won the High Roller: $50,000 Gtd for $13,640 and 223.61 PLBs and took second place in the Heavyweight: The Uppercut - $50,000 Gtd for $7,000 and 147.53 PLBs. He then followed this up three days later on July 3 with a third place finish in the Super High Roller: $100,000 Gtd to collect $15,375 and 165.61 PLBs.
Just behind Mattsson and Simao in the rankings is Sweden's Niklas "lena900" ?stedt. The Swede who also held down the third spot last week had an incredible run earlier in the year which resulted in him not only becoming the No. 1 ranked player in the world, but also winning the Monthly PocketFives Leaderboard in both January and February.
Another Swedish player, "Pot4teUS", is currently in fourth place in the rankings. This player is best known on PokerStars under the screenname "TanTanSWE" and according to his PocketFives profile passed the $3 million in career tournament cashes mark across all sites in the past week.
United Kingdom's Conor "1_conor_b_1" Beresford, who also recently passed the $3 million mark in PocketFives tracked tournament cashes, remains in fifth place in the rankings.
A pair of Russians hold down the next two spots in the rankings including Aleksandr "NoPlanB" Mordvinov who hit the highest spot in his career in the rankings with sixth place and former No. 1 ranked player Artem "veeea" Vezhenkov in seventh place.
Rounding out the top ten are Greece's Damianos "damourinio" Aslanidis in eighth place, former No. 1 ranked player in 2015 from Brazil Joao "joaomathias" Mathias Baumgarten in ninth place, and Italian poker player living in Slovakia Rocco "RoccoGe" Palumbo in 10th place.
