2017 PokerStars SCOOP Day 1: Cards in the Air
Though the 2017 PokerStars Spring Championship of Online Poker (SCOOP) has been running for a week, Sunday truly marked the beginning of the largest series guarantee in online poker history.
From April 30 to May 23, PokerStars is offering up $55 million in guarantees over 57 events. That's over $15 million more than SCOOP 2016.
SCOOP-1, a Phase structure event, has been running since April 30. Phase 1s will continue until the final days of the series where players who have survived a Phase 1 will gather to play for massive prize pools in the Phase 2 step. Through the three buy-in levels that SCOOP offers for each event, players will play for $1 million, $1.5 million, and $5 million prize pools on May 21.
The series kicked it into overdrive on Sunday featuring the start of five events, and with that, 15 different tournaments. Some of Sundays headline events included SCOOP-03-H: $2,100 Progressive KO, SCOOP-04-M: Sunday Million SE and SCOOP-04-H, all boasting a guarantee of $1 million.
With all the action on Sunday, none of the events crowned a champion. All 15 tournaments played were two-day structures, though some did reach a final table. Brazils v1garista leads the final nine players in SCOOP-02-M with fellow countryman JJUCIFER. More impressive, maybe, JJUCIFER is also at the final table of SCOOP-02-L. Playing out of Malta, hurrrrican3 leads the final seven players in SCOOP-02-H.
Fedor CrownUpGuy Holz is making a charge in SCOOP-05-H finishing Day 1 with the chip lead. Players in the $2,100 PLO Sunday Grand Special Edition are in the money with 32 remaining and chasing a $170,000 top prize.
Each of the events will play down to a winner on Monday. Also on the slate for Monday are the next four events, including an NL Omaha Hi/Lo event and a H.O.R.S.E. event.
