When the WCOOP is not taking place, the Super Tuesday typically attracts approximately 350 to 400 entrants. During the first week of the WCOOP, PokerStars reduced the price in half from $1,050 to $530 and the tournament attracted 2,679 entrants to generate a massive $1,352,895 prize pool approximately $1 million higher than normal.
Day 2 of the tournament began with the field trimmed down to 101 players. The final table began after Canada's Pascal "Pass_72" Lefrancois was eliminated in 10th place for $8,750. According to the PokerStars Blog, Canada's "slarki1" entered the final table with the chip lead, closely followed by "GadMo" and "flauschi16" in second and third place, respectively.
It didn't take very long after the final table began for the first player to hit the showers. On the first hand of play, Greenland's "polleblues" (ninth place - $12,374) open-jammed with ace-king from the small blind and was unable to improve his hand after "slark1" woke up in the big blind with pocket kings and called.
Russia's Sergei "(p/r)okSerj" Pavlov was the next player eliminated in eighth place for $17,499, also to the hands of "slark1" after his ace-jack proved to be no match for his opponent's ace-queen.
Almost immediately after, "cringeguy" lost a flip holding ace-king suited against "flauschi16" who held pocket sevens, sending cringeguy to the rail in seventh place for $24,747.
It took another two hours before a pair of Russian players were eliminated. First to go was "Pendos90" in sixth place for $34,998 to the hands of "slark1" after losing a flip holding king-queen against pocket fives. Shortly afterward, "Danya Kop" jammed with ace-eight suited and was called by the United Kingdom's "AJFC6819" who held pocket tens. "Danya Kop" was eliminated in fifth place for $49,494 after the board failed to improve his hand.
By this point in the tournament, "flaushi16" held the chip lead. That lead increased after "AJFC6819" was eliminated in fourth place when pocket kings held against pocket nines.
"GadMo" was able to trim down the chip lead before heads-up play began after he eliminated "slark1" with ace-queen suited against pocket fives. However, the comeback by "GadMo" was short-lived and "flaushi16" chipped up to a 2.5:1 chip advantage before the final hand of the tournament took place.
"GadMo" opened from the button with queen-six suited and got a call from "flaushi16" with ace-ten. "GadMo" fired out a bet after the flop came seven-three-ace and "flaushi16" smoothly check-called holding top pair. The same pattern of betting emerged when a five appeared on the turn. "GadMo" then shoved his remaining stack after a six appeared on the river and "flaushi16" called with the higher pair. "GadMo" was eliminated in second place for $139,990, while "flaushi16" claimed the WCOOP title as well as tournament's top prize of $197,978.
