WCOOP Day 20: Nick Petrangelo Ships $25K High Roller for $624,676 0001

Day World Championship of Online Poker (WCOOP) at PokerStars saw another thirteen champions crowned with eight big buy-in events and five low buy-in events coming to an end.

The biggest winner of the day was Nick Petrangelo who managed to top a field of 149 players in WCOOP-66-H: $25,000 NLHE [8-Max, High Roller], $3M Guaranteed.

The 149 entries of one of the most prestigious events on the WCOOP calendar created a prize pool of $3,654,225 and the tournament paid out the top 17 places with the eventual winner set to receive $767,030. With this being a two-day event, Day 1 ended after 21 levels of play and ended on the bubble with 18 players remaining. At the end of the day it was Mikita "fish2013" Badziakouski, who held the chip lead with 807,298. Badziakouski was followed closesly by Adrian "Amadi_017" Mateos (698,422), Patrick "pads1161" Leonard (674,222), Petrangelo (653,563), and Bryn "BrynKenney" Kenney (564,262) who ended the day with a top five stack.

In the early goings of Day 2, David "dpeters17" Peters bubbled the money, falling one spot shy in 18th place.

Final Table Action Begins

The final table began with Bartlomeij "bartek901" Machon as the overwhelming chip leader having over 2 million chips compared to the next closest person who was hovering around 1 million.

Badziakouski ended up getting short at the final table and then was the first to exit when he raised 80,000 of his 95,000 stack and then got three-bet all in by Leonard from the big blind. Badziakouski called and turned over K?9? while Leonard had J?8?. Leonard flopped a pair with the A?10?J? flop. The 9? turn and A? river were no help to Badziakouski and he exited in ninth place for $105,205.

Charlie "Epiphany77" Carrel was the next to leave when Machon raised on the button and Carrel shoved in the small blind. Carrel had J?Q? while Machon held A?K?. The board ran out A?6?Q?7?8? and Carrel hit the rail in eighth for $127,799 while Machon moved over 3 million in chips.

Blom With Back-to-Back Knockouts

Linus "LLinusLLove" Loeliger then open shoved his stack in the middle from the cutoff. Viktor "Isildur1" Blom made the call from the small blind and Kenney got out of the way from the big blind. Blom had 7?7? while Loeliger had A?K?. Blom got the better of Loeliger in the flip to eliminate him in seventh place for $165,087.

Blom then got another knockout when he raised in late position and Henrik "hhecklen" Hecklen shoved from the big blind. Blom made the call showing A?J? against the A?8? of Hecklen. The board bricked out and Blom got his second knockout in a row. Hecklen exited in sixth place for $213,253.

Petrangelo Gets In The Action

The next hand after Hecklen was eliminated in sixth, action folded to Nick "caecilius" Petrangelo who shoved from the small blind into Leonard. Leonard made the call for around 12 big blinds. Leonard was in the lead with K?8? against the 5?7? of Petrangelo. Petrangelo made a full house on the river to beat the flopped flush of Leonard on the 5?J?10?10?5? to eliminate Leonard in fifth.

Blom Runs Into Aces

Blom in the small blind and he limped. Kenney was in the big blind and raised to 92,222 from the 35,000 big blind he had been forced to put in. Blom shoved his remaining 772,345 into the middle and Kenney quickly called. Kenney had A?A? against the A?10? of Blom. The board ran out 4?K?6?3?9?, leaving Blom drawing dead after the turn and eliminating him in fourth place for $355,846.

Deal Made

Before three handed play began the players quickly made a deal, with Machon collecting $636,113, Kenney locking up $559,694, and Petrangelo set to receive at least $551,591. The players left $73,085 to play for along with the title of WCOOP Champion.

Machon Out In Third

After having almost half the chips in play six handed, Machon lost a big pot with Kenney to become the short stack at around 1.6 million. Kenney folded the button and Machon called 40,000 from the small blind. Petrangelo raised to 140,000 from the big blind and Machon shoved his stack. Petrangelo snap called. Petrangelo held a big advantage holding 9?9? to the 4?4? of Machon. The board didn't improve Machon he and finished in third place for $636,113.

Heads Up Play Begins

Petrangelo held a slight chip lead with 3.9 million to Kenney's 3.5 million at the start of heads up play. The match swung in Petrangelo's favor as he eventually took a 6:1 chip lead. Kenney was then eliminated when he got his stack in on a flop of 6?K?9? holding K?4?. Petrangelo held 6?9? and had outflopped Kenney. The turn was the 7? and the river was the J?, giving Petrangelo the pot and the extra $73,085 for the winner. Kenney received $559,694 for second place, while Nick Petrangelo walked away with $624,676 and the WCOOP title.
