Railbird Report: Dani "Ansky" Stern Quits Poker
Dani "Ansky" Stern might well be one of the most recognizable names in online poker. At the height of online poker popularity in America, he was one of the most outspoken high stakes players with a strong presence on the 2+2 poker forum.
Stern really rose to fame when he was featured on the popular television show 2 Months 2 Million (2M2MM). Together with Jay "KRANTZ" Rosenkrantz, Brian "flawless_victory" Roberts, and Emil "whitelime" Patel, they tried to win two million dollars in one summer in Vegas, back in the good old days when playing online poker in all of America was still possible.
The quartet failed to hit their goal, instead ending up with "only" $676,700 in profit. And even that amount was questioned by some, as one unique session near the end of the show made for most of that profit, which seemed a bit unusual to some viewers.
Despite being a hit with the poker playing community, the show didn't get renewed for a second season. The show is still available for viewing online:
While Stern has been a household name for quite some time and is widely regarded as a strong player, the high stakes stats tracking website HighStakesDB has anything but a positive result on the American. A good bit of data is missing, though, with years of action not showing in the graphs. Therefore, the following results for his Full Tilt Poker ("Ansky451") and PokerStars ("supernova9") account should be taken with a grain of salt.

Just recently, Stern announced his retirement from poker on Twitter:
Farewell poker world. It has been a wild and crazy ride, and I will miss it. On to new adventures ??

Catching Up on High Stakes Action: Three Biggest Pots Online
1) "donthnrmepls" Wins a $174,566 Pot (436 Big Blinds) from "wilhasha"
($200/$400 NLHM Heads Up)
Whether this was a preflop all-in agreed flip, a moment of tilt, or a multi-level hand with deep strategies, we don't know. What we do know is that "donthnrmepls" pushed on the button with the $100,000 he had in front of him. "wilhasha", with a stack of $87,282, called.
Player | Hand | Equity | |
---|---|---|---|
"donthnrmepls" | A?Q? | 66.50% | (0.41%) |
"wilhasha" | K?8? | 33.09% | (0.41%) |
The board ran out 6?10?J? 7? 5? and both ended up with what they started with: ace-high and king-high. The ace-queen of "donthnrmepls" remained best, giving him the 436-big blind pot.
2) "wilhasha" Wins a $86,886 Pot (217 Big Blinds) from "donthnrmepls"
($200/$400 NLHM Heads Up)
Another hand between "donthnrmepls" and "wilhasha", another preflop all-in. This time, it was "wilhasha" shoving for $43,643 from the button. "donthnrmepls" called in the big blind, having his opponent easily covered.
Player | Hand | Equity | |
---|---|---|---|
"donthnrmepls" | A?Q? | 63.51% | (0.51%) |
"wilhasha" | 6?5? | 35.98% | (0.51%) |
Again ace-queen and the best hand for "donthnrmepls" but this time it wouldn't hold up. The board ran out 9?6?3? 5? 4? and with two pair, "wilhasha" took down the $86,886 pot.
3) "candela2005" Wins a $66,282 Pot (334 Big Blinds) from "Katya_18"
($100/$200 NLHM 6-Max)
"candela2005" opened the pot with a raise to $400 from the cutoff and "Katya_18" three-bet to $1,600 from the button. This got rid of the small and big blind but initial raiser "candela2005" called.
With $3,500 in the middle, both players checked the board of A?10?9?. On the 6? turn, "candela2005" bet $1,800 and "Katya_18" called to grow the pot to $7,100.
The K? completed the board and "candela2005" bet $3,600, leaving himself $29,590 behind. "Katya_18" shoved and "candela2005" called.
"Katya_18" tabled J?J? for a mere pair of jacks, "candela2005" showed 7?6? for a flush and received the pot.

The 2017 Leaderboard
Nothing has changed since last week. The top 3 of biggest winning and losing players for the year of 2017 has been unaltered. Timofey "Trueteller" Kuznetsov still leads, despite losing a tiny bit this week. "BERRI SWEET" and Viktor "Isildur1" Blom follow. Sami "Lrslzk" Kelopuro lost a bit more, widening the gap between himself and Stern who, as expected, didn't log any hands. "8superpoker" remains in third place.
