Sam Higgs Wins Aussie Millions Event #16 for A$28,215

Australia's Sam Higgs won the Aussie Millions Event #16: A$1,150 Pot Limit Omaha Hi-Lo event for A$28,215 ($22,805) for his second Aussie Millions title after also winning a Pot Limit Omaha event in 2014.

The Aussie is best-known for winning a WSOP gold bracelet in 2014 when he shipped the WSOP Asia-Pacific A$5,000 Pot-Limit Omaha event for A$127,843 ($111,381). He now has over $700,000 in career live cashes to his name.

The tournament attracted 104 entrants to generate a A$106,000 prize pool, or 21 percent more than the 86 players it drew last year.

A dozen players cashed in the event with a minimum payout of A$2,130. Among the players to cash but not appear at the final table were 2013 Heartland Poker Tour Player of the Year Allen Kessler with more than $3.5 million in cashes. He took 10th place for A$2,665 and after his elimination questioned whether he should have waited for a better spot.

Hong Kong's Raiden Kan Yew Fatt recorded his second eighth-place finish in less than a week in an Aussie Millions event for A$4,805. His more than $1.1 million in live tournament cashes now include nine Aussie Millions cashes including three this festival.

A pair of Aussies were the next to go with Jarryd Godena taking seventh place for A$5,845 and Timothy Marsters snagging sixth place for A$6,945. Godena's nearly $400,000 in career cashes now include nine Aussie Millions cashes, while Marsters' more than $100,000 in career cashes include five in-the-money finishes in Aussie Millions events.

Finland's Santeri V?likoski hit the rails in fifth place for A$8,015 to record his first-ever Aussie Millions cash. He now has almost $600,000 in live career cashes.

Australia's Vadim Pinsky notched his fourth career Aussie Millions cash after bowing out in fourth place for A$10,382. All of his Aussie Millions cashes involved pot-limit Omaha variants.

American WSOP gold-bracelet winner Michael Moore, who has nearly $500,000 in career live tournament cashes took fifth-place in this event last year for A$7,055. While he was unable to get gold this year around he did outdo last year's final table performance finishing in third place for A$12,795.

This left a pair of Aussies left with Alex Horowitz and Higgs competing heads-up for the title. Higgs prevailed to win the coveted ANTON ring while Horowitz added to his over $100,000 in lifetime cashes after banking a healthy runner-up prize of A$19,940.
