Sunday Briefing: POWERFEST and SCOOP Kick Off in Style

May 6 was a huge day for online poker tournament specialists because not one, but two major festivals kicked off. There were the first 30 partypoker POWERFEST events, and the PokerStars Spring Championship Of Online Poker (SCOOP) commenced.

partypoker POWERFEST #04-HR: $1M Gtd

Oliver ��sk2ll_m0dR�� Weis won a massive $144,874 on May 6 thanks to winning the partypoker POWERFEST #04-HR: $1M Gtd event.

Weis was one of 1,703 entries in the $1 million guaranteed tournament, which saw an overlay of almost $150,000. The seven-figure prize pool was shared among the top 216 finishers, but, like in the majority of tournaments, the big money was reserved for the final table.

��Number_Ninjas�� was the first casualty of the final table, their eighth-place finish worth $11,800. ��Simba8787�� fell in seventh-place before Chris ��GettingDaize�� Oliver busted in sixth place for $25,800.

��Skoupidotenekes��, ��Kaggis_�� and ��FMylife�� exited to leave Hamish ��hamishc2�� Crawshaw and Weis to lock horns heads up. The heads-up duo decided to strike a deal that saw Crawshaw win $143,525 while Weis took $144,874, the title of champion and a custom trophy to be sent to his house, as this was a POWERFEST Championship Event.

Another Championship Event was the fifth on the POWERFEST schedule and it too had a $1 million guarantee. Some 999 entries of $1,050 was a great turn out for partypoker, especially as the weather around Europe has been blistering hot and many poker players would have taken the day off.

This tournament was a progressive knockout tournament and some of the bounties paid out were massive. Fifth-place finisher ��JJouhki�� won $19,330 from the prize pool plus an additional $27,486 from sending opponents to the rail; aside from the champion, this was the largest bounty payout.

That champion was ��MonkMode��, who defeated ��Ignent�� heads-up to secure the title. MonkMode banked $85,914 for their victory and added a further $69,519 in bounty payments for a very profitable day at the tables.

PokerStars $2,100 Sunday High Roller

The $65 million guaranteed SCOOP began at PokerStars, but as the events are all played over the course of two days, PokerNews will recap the action separately; expect some massive prizes to be won.

Ben ��Ben86�� Tollerene emerged victorious from one of PokerStars�� standard Sunday Majors, namely the $2,100 Sunday High Roller. Tollerene was one of 124 entrants who helped create a $248,000 prize pool that was divided up between the top 17 finishers.

Isaac ��philivey2694�� Haxton busted in ninth place for $6,094 with every blogger��s nightmare ��hdjgkfkgsdll�� busting in eighth place for $8,011. The last four-figure score in the tournament went to ��Black88�� of Russia, who collected $10,531 for their seventh-place finish.

Austria��s ��Korrinho��, Ukraine��s Roman ��RomeOpro�� Romanovsky and ��Idog1974�� of the United Kingdom fell by the wayside to leave ��ekziter�� of Latvia and Tollerene to play one-on-one for the title.

The title now belongs to Tollerene, who walked away with $54,358 for his efforts, with the runner-up adding $41,349 to their PokerStars bankroll.

PokerStars Sunday 500

The PokerStars Sunday 500 ended with a star-studded final table that would not have looked out of place in a tournament of ten-times the $530 buy-in amount. The final table enjoyed the lion��s share of the $204,500 prize pool that was created from 409 entries.

Alexsandr ��EvnomiYa�� Mordinov was one of the more recognisable names at the final table and he busted in seventh place for $5,844.

Anyone could have won from the final three players and they would have been a deserving champion. Team PokerStars Pro for Brazil, Andre ��aakkari�� Akkari eventually busted in third place and walked away with $20,023.

The Brazilian��s exit meant Netherlands-based British star Conor ��1_conor_b_1�� Beresford had the chance to win yet another major online tournament. It was not meant to be, however, as he busted in second place for a $27,241 score, which meant Sweden��s ��gnetaren�� won the event and its $37,061 top prize.

888poker $100,000 Sunday Mega Deep

The 888poker $100,000 Sunday Mega Deep had an overlay of almost $17,000, which isn't surprising considering there was the partypoker POWERFEST and PokerStars SCOOP in play.

Regardless, it was Ukraine��s ��GangsterGo�� who took full advantage of the added prize money as they triumphed in the tournament to turn $215 into $19,500. The Ukrainian defeated ��PokerJoe332�� heads-up to resign the runner-up to $14,500.

Finishing just outside the final table was Rick ��WhosToClaim�� Trigg, who recently helped himself to a $715,000 score in the PokerStars Sunday Million Anniversary Take 2 event.

888poker $100,000 Whale

Canada��s ��AceSpade11�� won the biggest tournament prize at 888poker on May 6 thanks to taking down the $100,000 Whale, a $1,050 buy-in event that attracted a field of 128 and created a prize pool of $128,000.

The Canadian walked away $35,200 richer than the day before after defeating ��f0rmEiRseGaL�� heads-up to claim the final elimination. 888poker ambassador Chris ��888Moorman�� Moorman finished in ninth place while Fabrizio ��DrMiKee�� Gonzalez exited one place later.

Currently ranked number one in the world, according to PocketFives.com, Simon ��Isildur1337x�� Mattsson busted in fifth place for $12,160 to make the waters slightly less shark-infested. But the day belonged to AceSpade11 who became an 888poker champion.
