A month ago we checked in on the 2018 Global Poker Index Player of the Year race to find Stephen Chidwick had taken over first position, and the UK pro is still in the top spot at the start of June, having now spent eight straight weeks in front after climbing to No. 1 in April.
Chidwick collected cashes in May in the European Poker Tour Monte Carlo series, in the World Poker Tour Bobby Baldwin Classic, in a $25K Aria High Roller, and in the 2018 Super High Roller Bowl. He's also added a final table already in the 2018 World Series of Poker, having finished sixth in Event #5: $100,000 No-Limit Hold'em High Roller won by Nick Petrangelo.
Hot on Chidwick's heels is Justin Bonomo, who after recently winning the 2018 Super High Roller Bowl and a $5 million first prize is on pace to surpass Fedor Holz's previously unprecedented 2016 in terms of tournament earnings.
Four cashes in those $25K Aria High Rollers including two wins and a runner-up were part of Rainer Kempe's strong May, and while he didn't earn POY points for all of those finishes he's still right there at No. 3. Meanwhile 2015 World Series of Poker Main Event champion Joseph McKeehen made three final tables last month, including taking third at the WSOP in Event #3: $3,000 No-Limit Hold'em SHOOTOUT won by Joe Cada, helping McKeehen jump up to No. 4 in the standings.
Adrian Mateos rounds out the current top five, as the 2017 GPI Player of the Year looks to defend his title. Mateos made final tables in multiple events at EPT Monte Carlo, and took eighth in the $100K Super High Roller at the WSOP.

Chidwick has also remained at No. 1 in the overall Global Poker Index rankings for the last eight consecutive weeks after having taken over the lead from Mateos in April. Prior to that Mateos had been the top-ranked tournament player in the world according to the GPI for the previous 20 weeks in a row.
There haven't been any big moves among the top-ranked players in recent weeks. It's worth noting, though, that Nick Petrangelo who himself spent 20 straight weeks at No. 1 from April to August last year jumped up from No. 21 to No. 11 last week on the strength of his $100K High Roller win at the WSOP.
