Throwback Thursday: Nick Schulman Cashes his First $100k

Yesterday, Nick Schulman reminded the poker world that he is an even better poker player than he is a poker commentator. Schulman won the Triton Poker Super High Roller Series HK$ 100,000 Short Deck Ante-Only Poker tournament for $271,975. While the two-time World Series of Poker bracelet winner is no stranger to winning tournaments, it is remarkable that Schulman had never played short deck poker until he entered the tournament!

For this week's Throwback Thursday, we travel back to PCA 2011 before Schulman became the beloved voice of poker commentary. A then Sarah Grant (now Sarah Herring) chats with Schulman, who was chip leader going into the final table of the $100K Super High Roller. Given the recent controversy surrounding the play between Alex Foxen and Kristen Bicknell at the MSPT Venetian $5K final table, it is interesting to hear how Schulman spoke about playing his best friend, Eugene Katchalov, at this 2011 final table. It was Katchalov who ended up winning the $100K for $1.5 million, while Schulman finished 4th for $400,000. Watch Sarah Grant unsuccessfully try to pronounce the prospective winner's name.
