Ladies Global Poker Index: Maria Ho Closing In on Bicknell in Overall GPI Race

3 min read
Maria Ho recently made a WPT Main Event final table.

Similar to the overall GPI article that comes out on the first Thursday of every month, the Ladies Global Poker Index report highlights the rankings of the best female poker players in the world, with an update released each month. You can catch up with the first edition here or check out last month's report here.

Each week, the Global Poker Index releases a list of the top tournament poker players in the world using a formula that takes into account a player's results over six half-year periods. Here, we take a look at both the top 10 Ladies 2019 Player of the Year standings and the Overall Ladies GPI rankings as of April 25, 2019. For a look at the latest PokerNews overall GPI report, see this article, and for a look at the entire Ladies GPI standings, visit the official GPI website.

2019 Ladies POY Standings

Plenty of movement took place over the last month in terms of the ladies Player of the Year race, except in the top spot - which is still held by Canadian pro Kristen Bicknell.

China's Yan Li moved up seven places from last month into the second-place spot with the help of four cashes at the recent APPT Korea festival, including two side event wins and third in a high roller. Meanwhile, Natalie Teh has moved up a couple positions to round out the top three after four cashes last month at the WPT Vietnam stop.

Yan Li
Yan Li booked two wins and a high roller final table at the APPT Korea.

Returning to the top ten on the POY standings are top pros Loni Harwood and Maria Ho, both of whom have had a nice showing of deep runs recently. Harwood took fourth in the $5k Bay 101 Shooting Star event in late March, followed by a couple other small cashes.

After winning a $25k LAPC high roller in early March, Ho will be adding points and money to that as she'll be playing out the delayed $3,500 WPT Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown final table next month. She has locked up 366.93 points, but is poised to accumulate even more heading in as one of the two big stacks among the final six; she also has a shot at the $700k top prize.

Joining the top ten this month is a new name, that of Renata Colache, who final tabled an $1,100 Six-Max event at the Seminole Hard Rock Poker Showdown and finished second in a $300 event at the Borgata Spring Poker Open this month. Those deep runs followed an eighth-place finish in the WSOP Circuit Atlantic City $1,700 Main Event last month, so Colache is definitely trending in the right direction.

Overall Ladies GPI Standings

The overall GPI score being a more long-term measure, it's not surprising to see Bicknell, Ho and Harwood at the top. Bicknell still leads by a strong margin though we know Ho will be getting a GPI points boost with her WPT finish in May.

Rising the ranks in the past month, up four spots to No. 4 is Russian pro Daria Feshchenko. Feshchenko finished fifth in a $1,600 LAPC Bounty event in February and booked two more cashes in March at the Merit Poker Top Guns festival in Cypress.

Other notable moves include Li Yan and former WPT champion Ema Zajmovic cracking the top ten this month in the overall Ladies GPI standings, which you can view below.
