Cernuto Notches 500 Tournament Cashes; Cunningham Gets his 10th WSOP Main Event Cash

Summer camp for poker players is over after nearly two months of poker action at the World Series of Poker.

In addition to the many players winning bracelets or otherwise winning big, milestones have been reached in July by both John "MiamiJohn" Cernuto and Allen Cunningham that are worth mentioning.

Cernuto First to Reach 500 Cashes

If you have been around a poker room in the United States, chances are you have come across John Cernuto. The poker player notched his record 500th career poker tournament cash according to The Hendon Mob in a big way by winning the Venetian DeepStack Poker Series $400 Limit Omaha 8 or Better for $10,304 after agreeing to a heads-up deal with Sergey Zaporozhets.

Cernuto may have some company soon with Men "The Master" Nguyen sitting on 494 different tournament cashes. The duo both have a cushion on the player with the third most cashes with Randy Holland collecting 442 different tournament cashes.

It hasn't been all volume for Cernuto as he also has won big several times including winning three WSOP gold bracelets and two WSOP gold rings as part of his more than $5.9 million in total poker tournament earnings. He also has won 45 different events and has had 356 top-ten finishes.

His most significant cash came more than two decades ago when in 1997 he finished on top of a field of 355 entrants in the WSOP $2,000 No-Limit Hold'em to win the second of his three bracelets and the $259,150 top prize.

Cunningham Notches 10th WSOP Main Event Cash

Allen Cunningham may not have as many cashes as Cernuto with 226 to his name, but he has made them count as he now has ten cashes in poker's biggest tournament of the year in the WSOP Main Event.

This ties him with fellow Poker Hall of Fame inductee Berry Johnston for the most in WSOP history.

Cunningham notched his record tieing tenth cash after finishing in 586th place in this year's Main Event for $24,560. This makes it three years in a row he has cashed on poker's center stage and five out of the last seven.

Several other players headed into this year's Main Event with nine cashes but were unable to get a tenth including Johnny Chan, Chris Bjorin, Humberto Brenes, Doyle Brunson, and Bobby Baldwin.

Cunningham's Main Event Cashes

Cunningham's has cashed for nearly $4 million in the Main Event alone accounting for more than one-third of his roughly $11.9 million career tournament cashes in all events.

His first Main Event cash came in 2001 when he finishing in 27th place for $39,960. It was another five years before he was able to head to the cashier again during the WSOP Main Event. But when this did happen, it was a moment to remember for the poker pro as he had his most significant tournament cash to date with a fourth-place finish for $3,628,513. Jamie Gold won that year for $12,000,000, Mike Binger (3rd, $4,123,310) and Paul Wasicka (2nd, $6,102,499) outlasted Cunningham too.
