The Unibet Open heads to Malta for the fourth time in the tour's history. The tour goes back to the island Sept. 11-15 in partnership with Casino Malta at the InterContinental Hotel in St. Julians.
PokerNews will once again be reporting the highlight of the festival, the Unibet Open Malta 1,100 Main Event on Sept. 12-15. The tournament features three opening flights on Sept. 12-13 with players starting with 30,000 in chips.
The first two flights feature long 60-minute blind levels while the final opening flight is a turbo-charged affair with blind levels of 20 minutes each. Players can reenter once but their second entry must come on Day 1c.
Surviving players from the three opening flights will compete for two more days on Sept. 14-15 until the fourth Unibet Open Malta Main Event winner is crowned.
Unibet Open Malta Main Event History
The Unibet Open had a different look during its first visit to Malta in 2011 when the Main Event took place at Portomaso Casino with a larger 1,650 buy-in. Mateusz Moolhuizen shipped the first of his two Unibet Open Main Event titles after he finished on top of a field of 293 entrants to win 117,000.
The festival took a five-year break from the island before returning to its current location of Casino Malta in 2016 with the Main Event buy-in reduced to its current price tag of 1,100. Martin Soukup was the last player standing among the 292 entrants to win the 65,000 top prize.
Two years later, in 2018, Daniel Jacobsen etched his name into Unibet Open history by navigating through a field of 273 entrants for his biggest cash to date of 60,090.
