Aaron "Ace" Corson has been an avid supporter of the Heartland Poker Tour (HPT) during events in the St. Charles/St. Louis area, notching six cashes in preliminary events in the last few years, all while battling Stage IV Appendix Cancer.

Corson, who had been in and out of the hospital over the last few months, played one final HPT event this week, Event #9: $300 NLH 6-Max, during the HPT Season XV Championship Series at Hollywood Casino St. Louis, getting a rousing round of applause from the room in support of his fight against his disease.

"Hes had a major impact on everyone who is familiar with his story. It has been really great to see the community rally to support him.

HPT Marketing Director Korey Stewart tweeted out support for Corson's final tourney, and said, Aaron has been a big part of the St. Louis poker scene for years. Hes had a major impact on everyone who is familiar with his story. It has been really great to see the community rally to support him.

Corson has elected to live the final months of his life on his terms and has entered Hospice care, stating, "I have fought this disease with everything I have for over five long years and I will continue to fight for as much quality time as possible. I am not afraid and it's you all that give me the courage to take these final steps of my journey on my own terms. I've had an incredible, rewarding life and I am grateful for each and every one of you that has been a part of it!"

Corson is an avid supporter of First Descents, a non-profit organization that sponsors "Life-changing adventures for young adults impacted by cancer," and Corson has been on several First Descents adventures that have inspired him to continue to fight and live a life of hope and purpose. These free outdoor adventure programs empower them to climb, paddle, and surf beyond their diagnosis, reclaim their lives and connect with others doing the same.

Both PokerNews and the HPT wish Corson the best as he reaches the end of his life on his terms.
