Sunday Briefing: Johannes Korsar Wins Two Majors

Johannes ��Greenstone25�� Korsar has started 2020 like a house on fire and can seemingly do no wrong at the poker tables. The ultra talented Swedish grinder managed to navigate his way to not one but two titles online on January 19th and walked away with almost $100,000 as a result.

$2,100 Sunday High Roller at PokerStars

Korsar��s first victory came in the $2,100 Sunday High Roller at PokerStars, a tournament that has failed to run for the past few weeks. It kicked off this week and saw 58 entries create a $116,000 prize pool.

A cool $40,778 of that sum is now nestled in the account of Korsar after he came out on top to claim the title. Korsar defeated online legend Jon ��apestyles�� Van Fleet heads-up, resigning his Canadian opponent to the $27,920 runner-up prize.

Only the top six finishers received a slice of the $116,000 pie. Former Team PokerStars Pro Igor ��lechuckpoker�� Kurganov was the first to collect some prize money, namely $6,135. Kurganov was joined on the rail by Gianluca ��Tankanza�� Speranza ($8,961) and triple Sunday Million winner Artem ��veeea�� Vezhenkov ($13,088) before Uruguay��s ��ramastar88�� finished in third-place ($19,116) to send the tournament heads-up.

Half Price Sunday Warm-Up at PokerStars

PokerStars halved the buy-in of this week��s Sunday Warm-Up and it proved a popular decision as 3,692 players ponied up the $109 required to take a seat in the tournament. This meant a $369,200 prize pool shared among the top 611 finishers, was created.

Each of the nine finalists walked away with more than $3,000. Canadian duo ��XxMuskyxX�� and ��MATT HOLVIK�� ran out of steam first at the final table. They were joined by ��Mkjacko888�� and Brazilian Felipe ��Pntoja RO�� Pantoja, the latter being the last player not to bank five-figures.

��dumanis26�� of Taiwan got their hands on $12,810 for finishing in fourth, with Zapan ��MADnesS100�� Eduard busting in third from his home in Romania; third-place locked up $26,011.

Heads-up saw Andrew ��dawhiteninja�� Wool and Fernando ��fviana�� Viana de Costa lock horns one-on-one for the title. The latter emerged victoriously but not before a deal was struck that saw second-place swell to $42,004. The champion banked an impressive $47,882 for his win.

High Roller Phased: $200K Gtd Final at partypoker

Korsar��s second outright victory of the night came in the High Roller Phased: $200K Gtd Final at partypoker. Korsar was one of 546 entrants who battled it out for a share of $267,500.

The final table was a star-studded affair with two Team partypoker pros reaching it. Scotland��s Ludovic ��Gr4vyBo4t�� Geilich ran out of steam in sixth-place for $8,506, with team-mate Renato ��renato_nomura�� Nomura crashing out in fifth-place for $11,770.

The difference between first and second place was more than $14,000 but no deal was struck. This meant Korsar hauled in a $49,862 prize when he defeated ��Value Bluff�� heads-up. Value Bluff padded their bankroll with $35,443.

partypoker MILLION Final Day at partypoker

There was a substantial overlay in the partypoker MILLION, one of more than $100,000. None of the 600 players who cashed were bothered by this, obviously, because it meant extra value in their pocket.

All but one of the eight players at the final table turned their $215 into a five-figure prize. ��RiverOffice�� scooping $9,490 for their eight-place exit.

A legitimate star in the shape of Henri ��B13R0�� Buehler almost got the job done and claimed the top prize, but his luck ran out in fourth-place and he had to make do with a $44,740 addition to his bankroll, according to his Twitter feed.

Third-place and $68,700 went to ��BackOnMyFeet�� which set up a heads-up battle between ��MisterJuve�� and ��BlueMagic�� with both players guaranteed to reel in six-figures.

MisterJuve fell by the wayside at the final hurdle, winning $107,050, leaving BlueMagic to secure the $153,350 lion��s share of the prize pool.

$20,000 Whale at 888poker

Over to 888poker now where Brazil��s ��rmilheiro�� won the $6,500 top prize of the $20,000 Whale. The Brazilian outlasted 62 opponents on their way to victory, including Malta-based star ��HateH4teHate�� who had to make do with the $4,200 consolation prize.

Seventh and eighth-place won $900 and $800 respectively, paving the way to a four-figure prize for the remaining players. Ukraine��s ��Fukuruku�� is no stranger to final table, although this one ended in a sixth-place exit worth $1,100.

$100,000 Sunday Mega Deep at 888poker

Staying at 888poker where the $100,000 Sunday Mega Deep ran with its new lower $109 buy-in, a move that attracted 1,157 players who helped smash the guarantee by $15,700.

The United Kingdom��s ��Iwolfwhite�� was the main beneficiary of this swollen bankroll as they finished on top of the pile and received $20,826. They defeated ��kory1977�� in Ireland heads-up with the Irish player turning their $109 into $15,041.

Romanian star ��01tdr�� busted in third-place and collected $11,222, the only other player to book a five-figure prize.

Phased: High Rollers $250 at Natural8

Natural8 saw some big prize pools including one weighing in at a quarter of a million dollars. That tournament was the $250 Phased event that was eventually won by Germany��s ��LlevoCoche�� who is now $40,780 richer than yesterday.

The German defeated ��DownswingPeters�� of the UK who reeled in a still impressive $29,594.

Three other players saw their bankroll��s increase by more than $11,000. One of those players was ��kisaa�� of Israel who netted $11,310 for their fifth-place finish. ��Mrazb_i_podonok�� netted $15,585 before ��El Inernado�� fell in third and collected $21,476.

High Rollers Main Event $500 at Natural8

Our final tournament on this week��s Sunday Briefing is the High Rollers Main Event $500 that was also won by a German, this one calling themselves ��omaha4lolz��. The Germany banked $21,653 for their $500 investment, a tidy return for sure.

Hungarian legend Andras ��PokerBluff1�� Nemeth has an incredible record in Natural8��s biggest events and continued his success with a sixth-place in this particular tournament. Nemeth won $4,981.

The top three finishers won five-figures each. ��MickeyM�� was the third-place finisher and he scooped $12,029, which left ��omaha4lolz�� and ��robocup�� to lock horns in a battle for the lion��s share of the prize pool.

It was omaha4lolz who emerged victorious, resigning their Albanian opponent to a $16,139 prize.
