The fourth World Poker Tour (WPT) Main Tour stop of 2022 is set in stone, and it will take place at the Venetian in Las Vegas, right smack dab in the middle of the 2022 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event.

The $5,000 no-limit hold'em tournament, which will feature a $4 million guaranteed prize pool, kicks off July 12 and concludes July 17, one day after the WSOP Main Event wraps.

Las Vegas is the Place for Poker in the Summer

Las Vegas' summer poker schedule is heating up, and we aren't just talking about the WSOP. Poker tournament series schedules have already been released for many top card rooms in town, including Aria, Venetian, Golden Nugget, and Wynn.

Over at Venetian, the Las Vegas Strip mega-resort will host its annual DeepStack Championship Poker Series from May 2 to July 31. The WPT Main Tour event is one of three WPT tournaments during the popular summer series.

On July 7, Event #106 of the DeepStack Championship Poker Series is a WPT $1,100 buy-in one-day no-limit hold'em tournament with a $200,000 guarantee, and from July 8-12, the WPTDeepStacks tour has a $2,400 buy-in, $2 million guaranteed event booked at Venetian.

Venetian has become a regular spot for WPT action over the past few years. Players show up in droves for these events. Last summer, Chad Eveslage won the $5,000 buy-in tournament for a whopping $910,370, beating out 1,199 entrants in what was one of the major events that filled the void left when the summer WSOP was postponed and moved to the fall.

In March 2021, Qing Liu took down the 937-player Venetian event for $752,880. He would go on to finish sixth the following day in the WPT Gardens Poker Championship ($111,795), a final table that had long been postponed due to COVID-19.

Competing Against the WSOP Main Event

WSOP Main Event

The WSOP Main Event is poker's most prestigious annual tournament, but the WPT isn't concerned with the competition. In fact, the Venetian event could benefit from WSOP spillover.

Day 1a of the Main Event kicks off July 3, followed by two additional Day 1 starting flights. By the time WPT Venetian begins (July 12), more than 90% of the players in poker's world championship tournament will have been eliminated.

As players bust from the Main Event, many will likely be looking for a chance to finish off the summer on a high note, and that's where WPT Venetian comes into play. There will still be a number of bracelet events remaining on the 2022 WSOP schedule as of July 12, but the World Poker Tour offers a juicy alternative.
