Rui Ferreira

Rui "RuiNF" Ferreira continued is hot run of form by completing a fantastic hat trick of 2022 World Championship Of Online Poker (WCOOP) titles. Ferreira had previously won a $530 buy-in Deep Stack for $48,267 and a $1,050 Limit Hold'em event for $18,048, now he has the $2,100 NLHE 6-Max PKO title to his name, a result that added $122,652 to his bankroll.

Ferreira was one of 256 entrants in WCOOP 38-H: $2,100 NLHE 6-Max PKO, a field that created a $512,000 prize pool. As you would expect from such a prestigious tournament, the field was littered with poker stars from all corners of the globe.

Peter "Belabacsi" Traply was the unfortunate soul that popped the money bubble, although he did accumulate $1,750 worth of bounties before he busted in 30th place. The likes of Gavin "gavz101" Cochrane, Sami "Lrslzk" Kelopuro, Alex "FutureofMe" Kulev, and Jon "apestyles" Van Fleet cashed in this event but missed out on a seat at the final table.

Andras "probirs" Nemeth did navigate his way to the star-studded final table, but he did not progress deeper than seventh-place. Nemeth collected $16,209 for his efforts. Then came the elimination of Kelvin "Kelvin_FP:AR" Kerber, the man leading the overall WCOOP leaderboard. Kerber's demise in sixth-place came with a $23,548 score.

Simon "C. Darwin2" Mattsson crashed out in fifth for $17,998 before Ferreira eliminated Team PokerStars' Lex "L.Veldhuis" Veldhuis in fourth-place while Veldhuis was streaming his action. Veldhuis' deep run resulted in $31,639 winging its way to his PokerStars account.

The tournament progressed to the heads-up stage following the exit of "000000000136" in third; the Maltese third-place finisher receiving $40,935. Heads-up was contested between Ferreira and Stevan "random_chu" Chew, who has only managed to capture one $500 bounty on his way to the final stage. The in-form Ferreira defeated Chew heads-up to scoop $122,652, his third WCOOP title of 2022, and his fifth career WCOOP victory.

Joao Vieira

Two more players earned their right to refer to themselves as world champions, and it is difficult to imagine two star more worthy of such a title.

Joao "Naza114" Vieira is now known as the World Champion of Heads-Up No-Limit Hold'em after the elite Portuguese grinder came out on top of a 46-strong crowd in the $5,200 buy-in affair. Vieira found himself heads-up against Ukraine's "Fen11x" in the final match, and he made short work of him to secure what is his seventh career WCOOP title, in addition to $103,500 in prize money.

Brazilian PLO8 specialist Belarmino "PaGaVelhinho" De Souza is the new World Champion of PLO8. De Souza won two PLO8 WCOOP titles in 2021, one in the traditional format and another using five hole cards. The Brazilian became world champion after overcoming 185 opponents, including defeating Gleb "Ti0373" Tremzin heads-up. Victory came with a $37,098 payment, but being able to call yourself a world champion in your favorite game is priceless.

The WCOOP edition of the $109 Sunday Million PKO event took three days to complete thanks, in part, to a 14,085 field vying for a slice of the $1,408,500 prize pool. When the dust settled, Amauri "Amauri410" Gulchinski was the only player with chip in front of them. Their reward? A cool $121,669 with bounties includes.

Australian Matthew "mjw006" Wakeman got his hands on the $27,315 top prize of the WCOOP 40-M: NLHE 7-Max PKO, while the United Kingdom's Paul "Fold Machiii" Dando triumphed in the WCOOP 42-H: $1,050 6-Max PKO event for a $42,690 score.
