Aces Cracked: Daniel Negreanu Bubbles Poker Masters $50K on Bad Beat

No selfie stick was harmed this time, but Daniel Negreanu had another frustrating exit from a poker tournament on Monday afternoon. The GGPoker ambassador's aces were cracked by Seth Davies' jacks on the stone-bubble of Poker Masters Event #10: $50,000 No-Limit Hold'em.
Entering the final table, the six-time WSOP bracelet winner was the short stack with seven players remaining. He had around 16 big blinds at the start of Day 2, which aired on PokerGO. About 30 minutes into the session, he found a golden opportunity to double up and get back into contention for the $666,000 first place prize.
Getting it in with Aces
With the blinds at 15,000/25,000 and a 25,000 big blind ante, Davies raised it up to 60,000 with J?J?, and then Negreanu moved all in with A?A? for 275,000 before being snap-called by the larger stack.
The flop came out 9?7?J?, giving Davies a set and leaving his opponent drawing to just two outs. When the turn and river appeared, which was K?5? changed nothing, Negreanu was out in seventh place, right on the bubble.
Davies scooped the pot and was up to 785,000 at the time, still among the smallest stacks. A sixth place finish in this no-limit hold'em tournament, the final event of the 2022 Poker Masters, is worth $92,500.

For Negreanu, the bad beat was just another of many he's suffered the past few months. During the 2022 World Series of Poker, the perennial Player of the Year contender couldn't ever seem to get anything going. He'd go on to lose $1.1 million for the series, nearly half of it coming in the $250,000 Super High Roller, in which he blasted through two bullets.
"You just have to have resiliency to do this for a living," Negreanu said in his Monday post-game interview on PokerGO. "Luckily, for me, I'm in a financial position where I can fade kind of swings like this and, you know, it's not about the money for me. But it's painful to love what you do and to play a winning game and to keep losing, and then feel like you're just sort of hopeless."
Negreanu, as he mentioned on Twitter, hasn't lost his confidence despite a brutal past few months at the poker tables. He is now gearing up for the $300,000 buy-in Super High Roller Bowl, which begins Oct. 5 at the PokerGO Studio in Las Vegas.
At the time of publishing, there were five players remaining in the Poker Masters finale, including Davies who was the shortest stack. Scott Seiver, Jason Koon, Erik Seidel, and Adrian Mateos were the four others still standing. A winner will be crowned at some point before the day ends.
