Kings of Tallinn Summer Showdown Gets Off to a Blistering Start
PokerNews predicted back in late June that the Kings of Tallinn Summer Showdown would be massive, and that prediction looks set to become true judging by the superb turn out for the opening events of the series.
The 150 NLHE Kings of Tallinn Summer Warm Up kicked things off, and it drew in a field of 225 entrants, who were al outlasted by local hero Markku Koplimaa. The Estonian star has more than $16 million in live and online poker tournament earnings, and he added another 6,450 to that impressive figure after bulldozing his way through the field.
Jarkko Suokas became the Kings of Tallinn Summer showdown 350 Opening Event champion, after coming out on top of a 194-string field to rake in the 13,100 top prize plus a 555 ticket to the Championship Event.
The title of 250 Mystery Bounty champion went to Finland's Robert Relander. The Finn outlasted 333 opponents to haul in a 7,500 first-place prize, plus any bounties he picked up along the way.
The 555 Championship broke its attendance record, with 573 players turning out across the four starting flights. Someone will walk away with the title of champion and a 56,900 payout in the next couple of days!
Remaining Kings of Tallinn Summer Showdown Schedule
The 1,100 buy-in Main Event is the tournament that everyone has their eye on. Featuring hour-long levels throughout, the Main Event's excellent blind structure would not look out of place in a tournament that commanded a buy-in ten times its size.
Unlimited re-entries are permitted during three starting flights, and also during the first two levels of Day 2, which should result in a gargantuan prize pool and a new attendance record.
A similar tournament at the Kings of Tallinn in February saw 716 entries create a 673,400 prize pool. Estonian Priit Parmasto took down that Main Event, and banked 97,400 after a three-handed deal involving Finnish duo Petteri Laiho (102,500) and Antti Vetelainen (90,000).
