In a world where No-Limit Hold'em dominates the landscape, it is brilliant to see the likes of King's Resort bucking the trend and offering massive Pot-Limit Omaha events. The Big Wrap series, which wrapped up this week (pardon the pun) proves that King's Resort is the destination for PLO tournaments in Europe.
The 5,000 buy-in Big Wrap 5K PLO Master served as the opening event for the week-long series and was a sign of things to come. By the time the registration desk slammed shut, the 128 entrants had created a guarantee-busting 583,680 prize pool. Finnish superstar Joni Jouhkimainen was the player who emerged victoriously from the intense battle, doing so with 154,900 to show for his efforts.
The Big Wrap Diamond 10K PLO High Roller exceeded all expectations, drawing in 143 unique entrant, who purchased 78 re-entries between them. Before you clamber for your calculators to work out the prize pool, let PokerNews tell you that those entrants fought tooth and nail for a slice of a cool 2,036,515, making this tournament the richest PLO tournament ever held in Europe.
Of course, with such a massive purse offered, the Diamond 10K PLO High Roller attracted the attention of some of the biggest names in world poker. The field read like a who's who of the high-stakes and nosebleed-stakes PLO scene. Ronny Kaiser, Martin Kabrhel, Harry Casagrande, the 2019 World Series of Poker (WSOP) Main Event champion Hossein Ensan, and this year's WSOP Main Event finalist Jan-Peter Jachtmann were in attendance.
Such luminaries as the legendary Antanas "Tony G" Guoga, Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier, and Mr. PLO himself, Leon Tsoukernik joined the battle for supremacy in Europe's biggest card room. Of those superstars mentioned, Jachtmann went the deepest, eventually falling in seventh place for 77,500.
With Jachtmann done and dusted, the remaining six players locked in a six-figure score. Vasil Medarov (105,000), Cai Lin Jin (135,500), and Alex Livingston (170,000) were the first trio of PLO grinders to bank more than 100,000 for this record-breaking tournament.
Sweden's Anton Suarez (211,000) bowed out in third before China's Quan Zhou defeated flying Finn Eelis Parssinen (327,000) to capture the title of champion plus 500,000 in prize money.
