David Docherty

Following his impressive victory in the 2023 Irish Open Main Event in April, it was likely Scotland's David Docherty would be crowned the PokerStars UKIPT Player of the Year come the end of the season. On November 9, Docherty took down the 3,200 Super High Roller at the PokerStars UKIPT Nottingham festival, and the leaderboard points received from that first-place finish ensures nobody can catch him at the leaderboard's summit.

Docherty was one of 46 entrants in the 3,200 UKIPT Nottingham Super High Roller at Dusk Till Dawn. The field was compact but contained many seasoned grinders, including Leo Worthington-Leese, Mitch Johnson, Scott Margereson, Waheed "Wadey" Ashraf, Jamie O'Connor, Steve Warburton, Ludovic Geilich, and Team PokerStars' Benjamin Spragg.

Docherty and China's Hang Xu fought it out heads-up for the right to call themselves the UKIPT Nottingham Super High Roller champion. Docherty got the job done, resigning Xu to a 30,120 consolation prize while locking in the 46,180 top prize and the 2023 Player of the Year award.

For his superb performances on the UKIPT throughout 2023, Docherty receives a 15,000 UKIPT 2024 package consisting of ten 1,100 live event tickets plus 4,000 cash for expenses. We guess we'll be seeing Docherty at the PokerStars-branded tables throughout next year.

Docherty won't have much time to rest because he is highly expected to jump into Day 1c of the 1,100 UKIPT Nottingham Main Event. Day 1a took place last weekend and saw 11 of the 76 starters progress to Day 2.

Yesterday, another 154 players headed to Dusk Till Dawn with high hopes, but the dream ended for all but 23 of those eager starters. Adam McKola bagged up a tournament-leading 518,000 stack, while the likes of Brandon Sheils (460,500), Benjamin Spragg (360,500), and Tom Middleton (254,000) finished with a top ten Day 1b stack.

PokerNews' live reporting team is on the ground throughout the UKIPT Nottingham Main Event, until the champion is crowned on November 13.
