WPT Prime Taiwan

The popular WPT Prime, like almost every other live poker tour, went on a brief hiatus during the 2024 World Series of Poker (WSOP), but it is returning with a bang from August 6 when it heads to the Asia Poker Arena in Taipei City for WPT Prime Taiwan.

Although the World Poker Tour site is yet to officially announce the full WPT Prime Taiwan schedule, it is unveiled the details for the championship event. The WPT Prime Taiwan Main Event features a trio of starting flights running August 15-17, with Day 2 on August 18 before wrapping up on August 19.

Each flight costs $35,000 Taiwanese dollars (approx. US$1,100) to enter, which the World Poker Tour is enough to hit the ambitious US$1 million guaranteed prize pool. Smashing through US$1 million should not pose a problem based on the last two time WPT Prime has called Taiwan home.

In November 2022, a field of 877 entrants created a prize pool equivalent to $809,133. Frenchman Marc Inizan came out on top of a predominantly Taiwanese field to capture a first-place prize worth $138,939.

WPT Prime returned to Taiwan in August 2023, and the Main Event exceeded all expectations. By the time late registration closed, 1,359 entries had been processed, and players were grinding for a share of a US$1,238,709 prize pool.

South Korea's Seonguk Huh emerged victoriously in 2023, defeating France's Leonard Yannick heads-up to rake in a top prize worth US$208,363. Huh has since spread his wings and cashed in some EPT Paris side events and in the $777 Lucky 7's event at the 2024 WSOP.
