Abhinav Iyer is a professional poker player from Mumbai, India. At the time of writing, Iyer has live poker tournament earnings of over $1.6 million.
Iyer first became known in the live poker arena in 2014, cashing in a handful of low-stakes events in Melbourne, Australia. By 2018, Iyer regularly reached the money places in larger buy-in events. A fourth-place finish in the HK$8,000 Macau Millions No-Limit Hold'em event earned Iyer the equivalent of $12,143, his first five-figure score.
In January 2019, Iyer became an Asian Poker Tour champion after taking fon the Ho Chi Minh Main Event for $98,055. The addition to his bankroll, plus the confidence boost received from winning, spurred on Iyer to bigger and better things.
Later that year, Iyer traveled to Las Vegas for the 2019 World Series of Poker (WSOP). He cashed in five events before entering the $1,500 No-Limit Hold'em Closer, the final event on the schedule. Iyer came out on top, and collected a career-high $565,346 in prize money and his first WSOP gold bracelet.
Iyer came close to capturing a second bracelet in 2020, finishing fourth in the online edition of the $1,111 Every 1 for Covid Relief. Although Iyer missed out on some more poker jewelry, he did scoop $127,571 in prize money.
At the 2021 WSOP, Iyer cashed seven times, including putting together a deep run in the $10,000 Main Event. Iyer finally fell in 60th place for $113,800, the deepest finishing position of any Indian poker player that year.
In the online poker world, Iyer was ranked as highly as third in the world for multi-table tournaments in 2020.
