Hand Analysis with Stream Team Member and New WSOP Bracelet Winner Chase Bianchi
Chase Bianchi is one of the newest members of the PokerNews Stream Team, with his first appearance on the PokerNews Twitch channel scheduled this weekend.
Like most of the poker world, Chase has been busy chasing bracelets at the 2016 World Series of Poker, and this week he made it all of the way to the winner's circle in Event #17: $1,000 No-Limit Hold'em. Bianchi topped a huge 2,242-entry field to win his first career bracelet and a cool $316,920 first prize.
Day 3 of the event began with 24 players left, with the formidable Danny Wong the chip leader and looking to add to his more than $1.15 million in tournament earnings, most of which he's claimed at the WSOP.
Relatively early on Day 3 there were 20 players still left when a big hand arose between Wong and Bianchi, one that proved key to Bianchi's tournament. During a break shortly afterwards, our Sarah Herring had a chance to chat with Bianchi about the hand.
As Bianchi explains, after watching Wong open from the button, Bianchi defended from the blinds by calling with 7?4?, then watched a flop come 10?6?3? to give Bianchi both a gutshot straight draw and a diamond flush draw.
Anticipating a continuation bet from Wong, Bianchi checked, and indeed Wong fired. Bianchi then check-raised, getting a call from Wong, then delighted in seeing an off-suit five fall on the turn to complete a relatively well-hidden straight for him.
Bianchi would lead the turn and get called, then they'd get all of his stack in on the river. Hear what happens (and what Wong had) although knowing Bianchi went on to win the bracelet, you already know this hand turned out positively for him. Take a look:
Congratulations to Bianchi on his big score. As he noted, he'll be streaming this Sunday, June 19 on the PokerNews Twitch channel, where along with discussing his play he'll surely share stories from his successful WSOP run. Be sure to tune in!
