Yesterday we shared a few fun hands from the first week of Global Poker League matches, pointing out along the way how watching the GPL��s Twitch stream can at times be a great way to review and learn poker strategy. Along the way we included Rome Emperors manager Max Pescatori��s tweet saying ��Stop buying poker books! Just watch @gpl games and learn at hyper fast pace.��

Pescatori��s recommendation got us thinking about the role of poker books these days, and how, indeed, those seeking strategy advice are more apt to watch videos or Twitch streams, consult forums and articles online, or perhaps talk with peers and/or coaches than to pick up a strategy book.

That said, books compiling poker strategy advice continue to be written and read by many. And looking back over the last few decades, it��s obvious that books on poker strategy have played an important role in shaping how the game has been played.
