WPT GTO Trainer Hands of the Week: Cutoff Open Vs Big Blind Call
Today youll be playing a common spot in a Tournament where you open-raise in the Cutoff seat and the Big Blind calls with a 30BB stack.
Due to your range advantage against the Big Blind, you should generally c-bet with a high frequency in this spot. Although you wont be c-betting 100% of the time on all boards, you will be c-betting much more often than not.
Keep in mind that the Big Blind has a very wide preflop calling range that is also capped. Very strong hands such as big pairs and big aces would have been 3-bet preflop most of the time, meaning that these hands are often not present in their range postflop after flat calling our preflop raise.
Because of the Big Blinds wide and capped range, hands like 2nd pair have much more value than in many other spots. You will often find two streets of value with these hands, rather than playing purely for pot control.
Keep in mind that with 30BB stacks going to the flop, the Stack to Pot Ratio (SPR) is much lower here than in deeper stacked situations. The result is that hands such as top pair go up in value and should often play for stacks. Top pair hands can take a raise and get it in line on the flop at these stack depths, similar to a betting line that two pair or better hands might take with deeper stacks.
