Arron Fletcher's Spectacular Call Against James Mitchell

Level 23 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante

James Mitchell bet 150,000 pre-flop from middle position and was only called by Arron Fletcher in the big blind. The two professionals went heads-up to a flop of {10-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{Q-Diamonds} . Fletcher checked, but Mitchell made it 100,000, which Fletcher called.

The turn of {K-Diamonds} saw Fletcher check again, so Mitchell made it 150,000, again prompting a call. On the river of {7-Hearts}, Mitchell made it 425,000. It would take over two-thirds of Fletcher's remaining chips to make the call, so his tournament direction hinged on it. He took his time, looking at Mitchell for around four minutes and processing the hand. Eventually, Fletcher made the call and was shown Mitchell's hand - {A-Clubs}{2-Clubs}. Fletcher turned over {K-Hearts}{Q-Spades} to win the hand with two-pair on a four-diamond board.

A high quality hand all round, with the trickiest of decisions played out superbly by both players. While James Mitchell is by no means out of contention, slipping to a still-strong 900,000, Fletcher has catapulted himself from below average to threatening the lead.

An intriguing player, Arron Fletcher's rise from tournament hopeful to cash game pro and backer is an interesting one. We'll be bringing you an exclusive and at times explosive chat with the Cambridge-born professional before the end of the week here on Pokernews.

Thomas Pedersen Eliminated in 16th Place (£1,310)

Level 22 : 16,000/32,000, 4,000 ante

A huge bust-out hand happened when Money Singh opened to 160,000 from under the gun. Thomas Pedersen raised to 800,000 with 100,000 behind that, putting it all-in blind when Singh made the call. Singh obviously called as soon as the flop came down, because while Pedersen had {7-Hearts}{7-Clubs}, Singh held {J-Spades}{J-Diamonds} and the flop came {6-Diamonds}{6-Spades}{J-Hearts} .

Incredibly, the {6-Hearts} turn actually gave Pedersen one card for a chop, but the river was not a six but the {5-Diamonds}, and he was out. Singh is our newest chip leader.

Break Time

Level 22 : 16,000/32,000, 4,000 ante

Players slowed down noticeably during the last few minutes of that level, perhaps in need of refreshment. They'll be back in twenty minutes and so will we to see who makes the final table, with three more levels bringing us ever closer to the final nine.

Hawkes Doubles Through Whyman

Level 22 : 16,000/32,000, 4,000 ante

Graham Hawkes saw Paul Whyman open to 75,000 and got his stack inot the middle with {7-Hearts}{7-Diamonds}. Whyman called it off, had {A-Clubs}{J-Clubs} and we were off to the races.

The board of {10-Hearts}{10-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}{2-Spades}{4-Spades} saw Hawkes double up and while he is comfortable, Paul Whyman is in desperate need of a double as shirt-stack.

In the hand thereafter, we have seen that Matteo Ferrero is no longer in his seat. 17 remain fighting for the title and £24,000 top prize plus the 888Poker London Live £880 Main Event seat ticket.

James Mitchell (pictured) is out in front on Day 2 as we enter Level 22, with blinds now at 16,000/32,000/4,000.

Can the former Irish Open champion reach the final table? There are some very well-placed big names looking to take him down...

Mitchell Eliminates Campbell

Level 20 : 10,000/20,000, 2,000 ante

James Mitchell has busted yet another player, to bring us down to the last 25 players. Raising to 40,000 from the cut-off, Leon Campbell had ground down to just 50,000 and he got that in from the small blind. Campbell was well ahead with {A-Spades}{K-Diamonds}, but Mitchell's {A-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} hit the flush on the {7-Diamonds}{6-Diamonds}{K-Spades}{2-Clubs}{4-Diamonds} board and rivered Campbell's hopes.

James Mitchell, former Irish Open champion is up to over a million.
