A Cooler and a Bad Beat

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante
Joao Figueiredo and Marv Karlins
Joao Figueiredo and Marv Karlins

Joao Figueiredo raised to 11,000 under the gun and Marv Karlins, who was just moved to the table, three-bet to 50,000 next to act.

Action folded back to Figueiredo and he jammed for 180,000, which Karlins snap called.

Karlins: {a-}{a-}
Figueiredo: {k-}{k-}

It was a cooler, but it also became a bad beat when the flop came down {10-Diamonds}{k-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} to give Figueiredo a full house. Neither the {4-Clubs} turn nor {5-Clubs} river changed a thing and Karlins sent over a big chunk of chips.

Morvay Dusts Off Palase

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante

We arrived at the table to find two hands face up with all of the chips in the middle preflop. The {q-Clubs}{q-Diamonds} belonged to Melissa Morvay and the {8-Spades}{8-Hearts} were in front of Richie Palase. Palase was the player at risk for around 80,000 chips.

The board ran out {k-Clubs}{7-Hearts}{3-Clubs}{2-Spades}{2-Diamonds} and Morvay's pocket queens held on to eliminate Parase just before the first break of the day.

Karlins Sends Aumann to the Rail

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante

Marv Karlins opened for 30,000 from early position only to have Greg Aumann three-bet jam for around 70,000 from the cutoff. Action folded back to Karlins and he snap-called.

Aumann: {7-Diamonds}{7-Clubs}
Karlins: {9-Hearts}{9-Spades}

Aumann was in dire straits and failed to get lucky when the board ran out {4-Diamonds}{j-Diamonds}{3-Hearts}{j-Hearts}{k-Spades}.

Rauchut Gets Flushed

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante

Curtis King raised to 11,000 in the hijack and Steve Rauchut called from the small blind. The flop fell {10-Diamonds}{4-Diamonds}{2-Diamonds} and Rauchut led out for 15,000. King just called and the {6-Diamonds} on the turn put four diamonds on the board.

Rauchut fired out another bet of 30,000 and King continued to call. The river was the {7-Hearts} and Rauchut checked this time. King slid in a bet of 55,000 and Rauchut looked him up. King tabled {a-Clubs}{a-Diamonds} for the nut flush, enough to beat out Rauchut's {k-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds}.

After the hand, Rauchut was down to just a single 500 chip and would go on to be eliminated just a couple of hands later.

Kane Flushes Nguyen on Way to Top of Counts

Level 16 : 2,500/5,000, 5,000 ante

With around 45,000 in the pot and a flop of {10-Spades}{8-Clubs}{j-Diamonds}, Brad Kane checked from the small blind and Tom Nguyen did the same from the big. The player in the cutoff then bet 13,000 and Kane called.

Nguyen responded by check-raising all in for 71,000 total and the cutoff quickly folded. Kane thought long and hard before dropping in the call.

Nguyen: {j-Hearts}{3-Hearts}
Kane: {a-Clubs}{5-Clubs}

Nguyen held top pair but had to fade Kane's flush draw. He managed to do it on the {7-Hearts} turn but not on the {3-Clubs} river.

"I knew it," Nguyen said. "He's running too hot."

Nguyen Gets Astarita to Fold the Best

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante

Anthony Astarita opened to 10,000 in middle position and Phi Nguyen three-bet to 20,000 on the button. The blinds folded and Astarita called to see a flop of {a-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{7-Spades}.

Astarita check-called a bet of 12,000 from Nguyen and the {j-Diamonds} landed on the turn. Astarita checked again and Nguyen pushed all in for around 55,000. Astarita asked for a count and gave it some thought, but eventually decided to fold, showing the {a-Clubs} in the process. Nguyen countered by showing the {5-Hearts}, letting everyone know that he got away with one.

Burke Binks to Double Through Lu

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante

Blake Burke got his stack of 39,000 all in preflop and was at risk against Mike Lu.

Lu: {a-Spades}{6-Clubs}
Burke: {k-Clubs}{7-Spades}

Burke was behind but not after the flop fell {6-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} to pair his king. Neither the {8-Diamonds} turn nor {2-Hearts} river were of any consequence and Burke shipped the double.

Koenner Puts Bad Beat on Washington

Level 15 : 2,000/4,000, 4,000 ante
Efim Koenner
Efim Koenner

A preflop raising war saw Turomne Washington get his stack of approximately 115,000 all in against Efim Koenner. Washington was primed to double with the bigger pocket pair.

Koenner: {9-Clubs}{9-Hearts}
Washington: {q-Spades}{q-Clubs}

Unfortunately for Washington, a bad beat was in store as the {5-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{9-Diamonds} flop contained a nine. Neither the {7-Diamonds} turn nor {3-Clubs} river helped him catch back up and he watched the large pot pushed to Koenner.
