Jazz Mathers Eliminated in 4th Place ($105,000)

Level 26 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante
Jazz Mathers - 4th Place
Jazz Mathers - 4th Place

Jazz Mathers has just fallen to the rail in 4th place!

He was all in preflop for 420,000 holding {k-Spades}{10-Spades} and had to come up against Steven Zhou with {a-Spades}{k-Clubs}.

Mathers had a sweat on the {j-Spades}{j-Diamonds}{4-Clubs}{q-Hearts}{j-Hearts} board, but ultimately couldn't find the cards he needed.

As per the private deal, Mathers pockets $105,000.

Redhouse Moving Up

Level 26 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante

Peco Stojanovski has stayed active following the deal.

Firstly he four-bet folded to a five-bet shove from Josh Redhouse, with Stojanovski showing {a-}{q-} as he did so. Redhouse showed a {q-}.

Then Stojanovski played a pot with Steven Zhou on a {k-Clubs}{a-Spades}{10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{a-Clubs} board. Zhou limped from the small blind prelop, Stojanovski raised to 100,000 from the big blind and Zhou then raised to 150,000. Stojanovski called and then called a bet of 100,000 from Zhou on the flop. Both players checked the flop and Zhou check-called a bet of 100,000 on the river. At showdown, Stojanovski showed {a-Hearts}{3-Diamonds} and took it down.

Stojanovski still has a slight chip lead, while Jazz Mathers continues to sit as the short stack.

Mathers Gets Them Back

Level 26 : 25,000/50,000, 5,000 ante

Jazz Mathers was down to his last 235,000 when he moved all in from the small blind. Steven Zhou announced a no look call in the big blind.

Mathers: {K-Spades}{J-Clubs}
Zhou: {6-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}

The board was spread {k-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{3-Hearts}{8-Hearts} to seemingly give Mathers the pot with a pair of kings. He was up on his feet talking to the rail as Zhou somehow convinced the dealer that hed won the pot with a flush. The board and cards were already mucked, but the dealer was happy to believe Zhou who raked in the pot and added it to his stack.

Mathers returned back to his chair to be rather surprised to discover he didnt have any chips! The tournament director quickly ruled that the 470,000 chips plus 20,000 in antes be taken from Zhous stack and given to Mathers. Zhou genuinely believe that he held {6-Hearts}{4-Hearts} for a flush, but had to be assured that he actually had {6-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}.

Mathers Hurting

Level 25 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante

Following the deal, Jazz Mathers and Steven Zhou didnt waste time in getting busy. Mathers raised preflop and Zhou called to see the flop of {6-Hearts}{10-Clubs}{2-Diamonds}.

Mathers bet 50,000 and Zhou called to see the {9-Spades} hit the turn. Mathers flicked out another 50,000 but Zhou declared a raise to 185,000. Mathers called and both players checked the {5-Spades}. Neither player really wanted to show with Mathers opening {A-Hearts}{8-Spades} for ace-high. Zhou had the same problem but his {A-Clubs}{J-Hearts} was a bigger kicker to take it down.

A few hands later and the two tangled in a battle of the blinds. Mathers bet 100,000 on the flop and 175,000 on the turn before checking the river on a board of {6-Diamonds}{7-Hearts}{8-Hearts}{6-Hearts}{6-Clubs}. Zhou bet 345,000 and Mathers made the call, only to muck when Zhou showed {8-Spades}{10-Hearts} for a full house.

Mathers is now down to just 300,000 and in some trouble.

Zhou Doubles Again and New Deal Talk

Level 25 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante

Steven Zhou was under the gun when he raised it up to 190,000. Peco Stojanovski called from the button and the dealer flipped over a {q-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{j-Clubs} flop. Zhou moved all in for 755,000 here and Stojanovski called.

Zhou: {a-Spades}{a-Diamonds}
Stojanovski: {k-Spades}{q-Clubs}

The {2-Clubs} turn and the {5-Spades} river meant that Zhou had doubled once again!

And with that, deal talks are back on the table.

Deal Talk and Zhou Double

Level 25 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante

Following the elimination of Rory Young, the four remaining players requested to look at a potential deal. They were told that the clock would not be paused so the players put their cards under their chips and didnt act while the numbers were calculated on the adjacent table.

At certain stages there were no players at the table while the play was frozen, which was a rather bizarre scene.

The ICM numbers presented Peco Stojanovski with $180k, Josh Redhouse with $130k, Jazz Mathers with $117k and Steven Zhou with $82k, but Zhou stated that he wanted at least $100,000, so he returned to his seat at the table.

Around ten minutes had elapsed, so poker room manager Stephen Ibrahim announced that the players had five more minutes to reach a consensus or the play would be resumed and their cards would be mucked. With Zhou confirming he wasnt interested in the deal, the players got back to action.

Jazz Mathers had already folded his cards from under the gun, but Steven Zhou moved all in for 425,000 on the button. Peco Stojanovski made the call in the small blind and opened {A-Spades}{9-Clubs} to be in bad shape against Zhous {A-Clubs}{k-Clubs}.

The board ran out {3-Diamonds}{K-Spades}{J-Spades}{8-Diamonds}{8-Spades} to give Zhou a big double up.

ICM now? laughed Zhou as hes back up to 900,000 in chips.

Rory Young Eliminated in 5th Place ($48,000)

Level 25 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante
Rory Young - 5th Place
Rory Young - 5th Place

Just moments after he lost most of his chips to Jazz Mathers and Rory Young has been eliminated in 5th place.

His final hand saw him all in for less than half a big blind from under the gun.

Jazz Mathers flat-called the small blind and Steven Zhou called checked from the big blind.

Mathers and Zhou checked down a {q-Spades}{5-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{10-Hearts}{7-Hearts} board and at showdown, Zhou showed {q-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} - enough to send both Mathers' and Young's cards into the muck.

Young picks up $48,000 for that effort, while the four remaining players are now guaranteed $62,300.

Jazz Leaves Rory For Dead

Level 25 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante

Rory Young was under the gun when he shoved all in for 825,000. The action folded around to Jazz Mathers in the big blind.

"This is f**ked," Mathers exclaimed as he looked at his cards.

"I can't fold," Mathers said as he called off his stack of 805,000 and tabled {10-Spades}{10-Hearts}.

Young turned over his {a-Clubs}{k-Clubs} and Mathers went over to Young and said, "I'm sorry, I couldn't fold."

When the dealer flipped over a {10-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}{3-Hearts} flop, Young was clearly upset and Mathers once again apologised.

The turn was a {7-Clubs} and the river was a {6-Diamonds} and with that, Young was left with just 20,000.

After the hand, Mathers continued to apologise, with Young saying, "We'll talk about it later."

"It's a brutal spot 'cause we are very good mates," Mathers said to a couple of the other players at the table.
