APPT Jeju Main Event Day 2 Set to Start
A total of 362 players have battled it out at the baize over the three respective Day 1 flights of the KRW 2,500,000 APPT Jeju Main Event and this number has been whittled down to a more manageable 97.
These 97 survivors have all assembled for the first time for Day 2, which kicks off at midday on Wednesday, June 26. Level length has increased from 40-minutes to 60, with ten levels scheduled for the day. Blinds start at Level 14, coming in at 1,500/3,000 with a 3,000 big blind ante.
The man leading the charge is no stranger to the top of the table, with former 2017 PokerStars Festival Korea Main Event Champion Tae Hoon Han returning with a stack of 296,500 after topping the Day 1A counts, which is good for the chip lead. The New Zealander is joined at the top of the counts by fellow Day 1A qualifier Xiaojie Lu from China, who will be beginning the day second in the counts with a stack of 271,000.
It is another Chinese player, Changyang Liu, rounding out the podium with Liu looking to better his third-place finish in the opening High Roller event.
There are also two seasoned players who have already achieved poker's holy grail in the field, with the USA's Shawn Busse (263,500) and China's Jiang Chen (122,000) having tasted victory at the World Series of Poker, with both players holding a coveted WSOP gold bracelet. Both will have their eye on earning a slice of the KRW 790,065,000 (~$684,620) prize pool, and competition for the money spots is expected to be fierce. The top 41 spots will pay out with a min-cash good for KRW 4,345,000 (~$3,765).
Nobody will be playing for that though, and all players will have their eye firmly on the KRW 183,695,000 (~$159,190) top prize, in addition to the trophy, title and something money can't buy ?— the chance to make poker history by becoming the first-ever APPT Jeju Main Event Champion.
