Garberg Slow-Plays Jacks

Level 24 : Blinds 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante

Chris Backhouse won another small pot without showdown against Nevan Chang and the latter then min-raised to 60,000 from under the gun. Markus Garberg flat-called in the big blind and check-called 50,000 on the {q-Diamonds}{7-Spades}{4-Clubs} flop. Both checked down the {5-Diamonds} turn and {3-Hearts} river for Garberg to reveal {j-Clubs}{j-Diamonds} as the winning hand.

Quoc Dinh Nguyen min-raised the next button to 60,000 and Chang defended the big blind. The {q-Diamonds}{q-Hearts}{7-Spades} flop went check, check, and Chang bet the {8-Diamonds} turn for 100,000 to force a fold from Nguyen.

Kings Work for Nguyen

Level 24 : Blinds 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante

Quoc Dinh Nguyen raised from an early position and was called by Alexander Puchalski in the big blind. They checked the {j-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{4-Spades} flop and Puchalski bet the {7-Hearts} turn for 100,000, Nguyen called.

Both checked again the {q-Spades} river and Puchalski tabled the {7-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds} for jacks and sevens, which Nguyen had beat with the {k-Hearts}{k-Diamonds}.

"Pussy Player" Backhouse Doesn't Shove

Level 24 : Blinds 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante
Chris Backhouse
Chris Backhouse

Chris Backhouse raised to 60,000 in the cutoff and Quoc Dinh Nguyen called on the button.

The Brit bet the {a-Spades}{k-Spades}{7-Clubs} flop for 60,000 and received a call before both checked the {7-Hearts} turn. After the {2-Clubs} river, Backhouse checked once more and Nguyen bet 110,000 for the Brit to call.

Nguyen tabled the {q-Clubs}{9-Clubs} and Backhouse won the pot with {a-Clubs}{3-Clubs}, admitting "pussy player, I should jam" in table chat.

Nguyen and Garberg Chop It Up

Level 24 : Blinds 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante

In a battle of the blinds, Quoc Dinh Nguyen limped and Markus Garberg checked. Both checked the {8-Spades}{5-Spades}{5-Clubs} flop and Nguyen checked the {8-Clubs} turn to prompt a bet of 90,000 by Garberg and his call.

After the {j-Spades} river, Nguyen checked again and Garberg bet 300,000. After using two time bank extensions, Nguyen carefully pushed his large towers of chips forward for a check-raise to 750,000 with some 130,000 behind. Garberg called with the {k-Diamonds}{8-Hearts} and chopped versus {8-Diamonds}{3-Clubs} as both had a full house.

Chang Jams Into Kapoor

Level 24 : Blinds 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante

Markus Garberg raised out of the small blind and Nevan Chang defended the big blind. They checked all the way to the {q-Spades}{6-Clubs}{5-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{q-Diamonds} river on which Garberg bet 325,000 for more than the pot and Chang folded.

In the next hand, Chang opened to 90,000 in the small blind and Akshay Kapoor called in the big blind. The flop fell {a-Spades}{q-Spades}{10-Spades} and Chang bet 60,000. Kapoor checked his cards and then raised to 150,000 only to get an instant all-in thrown at him by Chang.

Kapoor sighed and folded the {a-Diamonds} face-up.

Garberg and Puchalski Chip Up

Level 24 : Blinds 15,000/30,000, 30,000 ante

In the last two hands of the level, Alexander Puchalski and Chris Backhouse lost a few chips with pots being pushed to Markus Garberg and Nevan Chang respectively.

Puchalski was the flop aggressor on {k-Clubs}{4-Clubs}{2-Spades} when he made it 155,000 to go and was called by Garberg. The {10-Hearts} turn and {a-Diamonds} river were checked for Puchalski to reveal the {5-Clubs}{4-Hearts}, which Garberg had beat holding the {10-Clubs}{9-Clubs}.

Chang then min-raised and Backhouse defended the big blind. On the {q-Clubs}{j-Hearts}{10-Hearts} flop, Backhouse check-called a bet of 50,000 and the {k-Hearts} turn was checked. The Englishman also checked the {7-Spades} river and Chang's bet worth 50,000 did the trick to win the pot uncontested.

Galvez Doubles Through Garberg

Level 23 : Blinds 10,000/25,000, 25,000 ante

The shortest stack on the table belonged to Renniel Galvez and he pushed all-in for just 220,000, getting called by Markus Garberg in the small blind.

Renniel Galvez: {j-Clubs}{j-Spades}
Markus Garberg: {9-Diamonds}{9-Hearts}

The Norwegian joked about a flop of eight-seven-five to get some equity for a straight and was off by a bit when it came {6-Diamonds}{5-Diamonds}{5-Hearts}. Him and Nevan Chang joked about the seven of diamond next but the {3-Spades} turn and {2-Spades} river runout was no threat for Galvez.

Quoc Huy Phan Eliminated in 8th Place ($11,682)

Level 23 : Blinds 10,000/25,000, 25,000 ante
Quoc Huy Phan
Quoc Huy Phan

Following an under the gun raise by Quoc Huy Phan, Alexander Puchalski flat-called in the small blind and checked the {10-Spades}{4-Clubs}{4-Hearts} flop. Phan continued for 75,000 to pick up a call and saw Puchalski check once more on the {3-Hearts} turn.

Phan bet 150,000 and while doing so, his stack of T-5,000 partly fell over. Puchalski eyeballed how many chips his opponent had behind and plunked in a stack of T-25,000 for half a million. Phan had some 325,000 total at his disposal and called it off.

Quoc Huy Phan: {a-Clubs}{10-Hearts}
Alexander Puchalski: {a-Hearts}{j-Hearts}

"Ace jack has won before ... I am late for my plane anyways," Phan joked.

The {k-Hearts} rolled off on the river as Puchalski improved to a flush, sending Phan to the payout desk in eighth place for $11,682.

Kapoor Gets Some Chips Off Chang

Level 23 : Blinds 10,000/25,000, 25,000 ante

In a battle of the blinds, Nevan Chang raised to 100,000 and Akshay Kapoor called. The {10-Diamonds}{8-Clubs}{3-Hearts} flop brought a bet worth 155,000 by chang and a call by Kapoor. Both checked down the {8-Spades} turn and {2-Hearts} river as Chang revealed the {q-Spades}{2-Clubs}. Kapoor had the superior two pair with {k-Spades}{3-Spades} and won the pot.
