Back-to-Back Successful Showdowns for Chen

Level 5 : Blinds 200/500, 500 ante
Daoxing Chen
Daoxing Chen

Daoxing Chen committed the last 4,000 chips and left a single chip behind for Sven McDermott and one further player to call as Christopher Mateo also came along. On the 8?7?6? flop, Chen moved all-in and McDermott raised to 800 as Mateo check-folded.

Daoxing Chen: 5?5?
Sven McDermott: A?J?

The 7? turn and 10? river ensured a triple up for Chen, who then limped the next hand. McDermott raised to 1,500 and three players including Mateo and Chen came along this time.

On a 7?6?4? flop, Mateo bet out of the small blind and Chen raised to 7,000. It folded back to Mateo, who pushed as Chen called all-in for 11,100.

Daoxing Chen: 10?9?
Christopher Mateo: 5?4?

The 8? turn improved Chen, and so did the 2? river as he jumped back to the starting stack within two hands.

Double Knockout for Hendri

Level 5 : Blinds 200/500, 500 ante

Krishnan Menon and Nang Quang Nguyen were spotted on the way to the rail while Jhon Hendri was all smiles, as he had just sent both of them to the rail and boosted his already big stack further.

"Wait, was that raise, reraise and all-in with five-high?" Fang-Kei Yang inquired and couldn't resist a smile. Indeed, 3?3? and 5?3? were still exposed at the table but neither of them was good. Hendri's A?4? flopped two pair and held on a board of A?7?4?K?J? to dispatch two opponents.

Nang Quang Nguyen
Nang Quang Nguyen

In three-way action to the 7?6?3?10? turn, Nang Quang Nguyen checked and Fang-Kei Yang bet 1,500. Vinay Boob raised to 4,200 only for Nguyen to check-raise to 12,000 total. Yang folded and Boob then jammed for around 20,000 to get snapped off.

"Do you have a straight?" Boob asked and Nguyen nodded, exposing the 5?4? for a straight. Boob tabled 10?10? for top st but couldn't pair up on the 2? river.

Ghosh More Than Doubles Early On

Level 1 : Blinds 100/100, 100 ante
Ashish Ghosh
Ashish Ghosh

Four ways to the A?7?2? flop, Ashish Ghosh bet for 1,200 in the small blind. Guillem Segarra Lopez called and Thijs Hilberts in the cutoff raised to 3,700. Konstantin Generalov on the button called for Ghosh to call, while Segarra Lopez folded.

The 8? followed on the turn and it checked to Generalov, who bet 8,000 and received two calls. That brought around the 9? river and once more, Ghosh and Hilberts checked. Generalov pushed all-in and Ghosh called all-in for 11,900 within a few seconds.

Hilberts was stunned and folded to get shown the K?J? by Generalov, as Ghosh doubled with the A?J?. That left Hilberts and Segarra Lopez even more stunned as they all wondered what had just happened.

Two Flights Remain in the 2023 APPT Cambodia $1,500 Main Event

Tournament Room
Tournament Room

A busy day is expected in the grand ballroom of the five-star NagaWorld Integrated Resort in Phnom Penh as the PokerStars Asia Pacific Poker Tour (APPT) gets ready for the business end of the festival. After a successful first starting day for the 2023 APPT Cambodia $1,500 Main Event with 176 entries, the flagship tournament is destined to easily surpass the $400,000 guarantee.

Another two starting days are available for poker enthusiasts from near and far in one of the up and coming live poker hotbeds of the Asia-Pacific region, as NagaWorld has hosted several international stops throughout the last few years with prize pools reaching seven figures.

Day 1b is slated to get underway at 1 p.m. local time and features the same 40-minute level duration as the first flight, while the turbo heat 1c will follow at 8 p.m. local time. The goal of all participants for both flights is the same: Surviving 13 levels and bagging up chips to advance to Day 2, when the race to the money and nine-handed final table continues.

The late registration is open for the first ten levels and following break and during that period, a single re-entry option is available. All participants receive 30,000 in chips, which is good enough for 300 big blinds in the first level of play at blinds of 100-100 with a big blind ante of 100.

Chip leaders so far from the first flight are Cheng Zhang (399,000) and Bien Mai (394,000), who increased their initial stack more than 13-fold. Whether or not anyone will surpass them on the overall leaderboard in the last two Day 1s today remains to be seen. Defending champion Alexander Puchalski is expected to give his title defence another shot after he failed to make it through Day 1a.

The PokerNews live updates will focus on Day 1b while full chip counts of the turbo heat 1c are published once they are provided.
