Matenga Dominates Third and Final Day 1 Flight
Thats it. No more chances to secure a spot in Day 2 of APPT Auckland as the third and final Day 1 flight has come to a close at the SKYCITY Casino.
There were 79 total entrants on Day 1c, which, when added with the first two Day 1 flights, meant the final field weighed in at 225. Thats 12 larger than last years ANZPT Auckland, and its the top 24 who will make the money, while the eventual champion will pocket a very nice NZ$132,000.
You can find full prize pool information by clicking here.
As with the last few days, there were plenty of recognizable faces at the felt on Day 1c. Some of those include New Zealand locals Jack Efaraimo and Koray Turker, Australians Luke Brabin, Bruno Portaro, Jesse On the Mac McKenzie, ANZPT Melbourne winner Edison GooGieMonA Nguyen, Sal Fazzino, Patrick Healy, and 2011 Aussie Millions winner David Gorr. Most of the aforementioned players were eliminated throughout the day, except for McKenzie and Brabin, who both made it through to Day 2. They will be joined by players like Luke Spano, Joachim Chia, and Thomas Ward who also made it through from Day 1c.
The chip leader to end Day 1c was Terangi Matenga with 170,400 in chips. He trails Day 1b chip leader Mehrdad Razmi and Day 1a leader Ben Rendall heading into Day 2. You can find complete end-of-day counts in the live reporting blog below, along with a full Day 2 table and seat draw.
There were 29 survivors on Day 1c, which means 80 total will now return for Day 2. The plan is to kick off at 12:15 p.m. local time tomorrow and play into the money and as close to the final table in 10 levels as possible. Be sure to join us then!
