Around the Room, Vol. 2

The tournament is now running a total of sixteen hours and thirty minutes. There are exactly two tournament members staffing the tournament (a dealer and a floor supervisor); two players left playing the tournament; two tournament reporters covering the tournament; and one person on the rail watching the tournament.

Mel Judah has suggested to the supervisor that an adjustment should be made to the structure next year to prevent a repeat of this Sisyphean struggle. His idea was either to decrease the length of the levels to thirty minutes or to make the blinds jump at heads-up play.

Even Again

Mel Judah bet his hand all the way to the river, finally inducing a fold from Rainer Quel on that street. He has reclaimed a slight chip lead, although for all intents and purposes the two players are even.

Around the Room

In one of life's happy little coincidences, we can report that the $10-$20 Omaha Hi cash game, which hasn't broken for three days, is still going strong in the upper level of the room. Eight people are laughing it up in the game. That's in stark contrast to Rainer Quel and Mel Judah, who seem to be growing more miserable with each passing hand that gets chopped. Perhaps we can petition the tournament staff to change the game to PLO.

We've Hit a Lull

The two players have reached a point of trading small pots back and forth and chopping pots. Neither has made much movement in the last ten minutes.

...but Quel Can't Get the Kill

Rainer Quel had Mel Judah on the ropes again, but somehow Judah has lived to see another pot. A series of preflop and flop raises built a pot of 100,000 chips. 40,000 more went in on each of the turn and river. With the board showing {3-Spades} {8-Hearts} {6-Diamonds} {Q-Diamonds} {10-Hearts}, Judah turned over {A-Diamonds} {7-Spades} {2-Hearts} {A-Clubs} for a scoop. He's back up to 210,000 in chips.

Big Swings from Small Pots

Limits are huge now, with only twenty-five big bets total in play. Losing even a few small pots has a big effect on a player's stack, as Mel Judah is learning. He has slowly chipped down to just 100,000 chips, or only five big bets.
