What's Happening?

45 players remain.

The big stack looks to be Brad Fry and Marty Robinson who have 48,000 in chips.

Some of the other stacks around the place:

Team Balaban - 35,000
Raj Ramakrishnan/Stewart Scott - 25,000
Andrew Demetriou/Antonio Casale - 11,500
Aaron Benton/Tony Hachem - 5,000
Lee Clever/Shane Fletcher - 16,000
Mick Guttman/Mel Judah - 12,000
Billy Jordanou/Joey Baker - 40,000

Peters and Bernard Busto

Donnie Peters opened from under the gun with a raise to 1,500. Action folded over to last year's Aussie Millions champion Stewart Scott in the cutoff seat and he moved all in for 9,200. The button and blinds folded and then Peters made the call.

Peters: {J-Spades}{J-Clubs}
Scott:{A-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}

The board ran out {K-Spades}{9-Clubs}{5-Diamonds}{8-Hearts}{8-Diamonds} and Peters sent over the 9,200 chips, leaving his team with just 700.

It was the last hand of the level and Peters' teammate James Bernard sat down to the remaining stack in the big blind. The blinds had moved up to 400-800 and Bernard was forced all in.

The player under the gun raised to 2,000 and everyone folded. Bernard had two live cards with the {8-Diamonds}{7-Diamonds} against the under-the-gun player's {A-Hearts}{K-Hearts}.

The player flopped two pair with big slick and that was all he needed to finish off Peters and Bernard.

Update

We have about 57 players remaining in this event.

The biggest stack we saw out on our travels around the Teams Event was around 38,000. The guy with it sounded Scandinavian and was threatening to call anyone with any face card - we're not sure those chips will be in the stack when we go back.

Some of the notable stacks in the field:

Team Balaban - 20,000
James Bernard/Donnie Peters - 15,000
Raj Ramakrishnan/Stewart Scott - 11,000
Andrew Demetriou/Antonio Casale - 9,000
Aaron Benton/Tony Hachem - 12,000
Lee Clever/Shane Fletcher - 9,500
Mick Guttman/Mel Judah - 9,000
Billy Jordanou/Joey Baker - 17,000

Joe and Anthony Hachem were unseen, therefore it's probable that their busto.

Nobbi Tanaka and Michael Guzzardi are confirmed busted after running {j-?}{j-?} into the {k-?}{k-?} of Shane Fletcher and Lee Clever.

Some Counts

A few chip counts from around the place:

Stewart Scott/Raj Ramakrishnan 16,000
Mick Guttman/Mel Judah 8,000
Aaron Benton/Tony Hachem 20,000
James Bernard/Donnie Peters 8,000
Andrew Demetriou/Antonio Casale 4,500

Be sure to shout us if you're looking for a particular chip count.

Michael Russell's Team Out

Michael Russell and his partner have been banished from the team's event in cruel circumstances.

Russell led out on a {k-?}{2-?}{2-?} flop and his opponent check-called. The turn was a {4-?} with the opponent check-raising all in. Russell called tabling {k-?}{q-?}.

"Ahh, you got me," said the opponent, as he turned over his {6-?}{6-?}.

Not quite, the {6-?} hit the river causing quite an uproar from the shock.

Unfortunately that ends the day for Russell and his team mate.

Conflict

A unique situation only possible in teams events just occured.

After taking exception to being called down by an opponent, a player began to blow up.

"That's a rubbish play, you're such a donkey. If you think your hand is no good, why don't you just fold," said the player.

His opponent began to serve it back to him, telling him to "shut up" and "shut your mouth".

The two players argued for about three minutes, until the change of levels when their team mates rotated into the game. The team mates came into the game, defused the situation, shook hands with each other and got on with the game like normal.

The original angry player is over near the rail still complaining. But action is normal on the felt.

Counts

Dennis Huntly/Luke Thomas 5,800
James Bernard/Donnie Peters 5,225
Joe Hachem/Anthony Hachem 7,000
Aaron Benton/Tony Hachem 7,500
Carter Phillips/Josh Goldstein 5,800
Andrew Demetriou/Antonio Casale 6,000
Joey Baker/Billy Jordanou 8,900
Nobbi Tanaka/Michael Guzzardi 4,600

Some Teams

Dennis Huntly is paired with Luke Thomas.

Joe Hachem is teamed with Anthony Hachem (not Tony!).

Tony Hachem and Aaron Benton are playing together.

Stewart Scott and Raj Ramakrishnan have formed the 2009 Main Event All-Stars team.

Carter Phillips and Josh Goldstein will be hoping to take the title for the internationals.

Bill Jordanou is back in the saddle after being eliminated from the Heads Up Event this afternoon. He is teamed with Joey Baker.

Nobbi Tanaka and Michael Guzzardi are teamed up as well.

PokerNews also has a reporter and a blogger in the field with Donnie Peters and James Bernard looking to earn some props for the media.

How Does Team Poker Work

The game is No Limit Hold'em. Teams of two, only one member from each team is on the felt at a time.

The partner's rotate whose turn it is to play the team's stack each level. The first players in the game get half of the team's start bank, if they bust in the first level the team mate comes in immediately and plays with the other half of the team's starting bank.

That person will play the remainder of the first level, and the second, before the original partner resumes play in the third level.

From the second level onwards team will have their full stacks in play, and once it's gone the team is eliminated.

Should be fun. Back soon with some of the big name team's in the field and hopefully some numbers.
