2011 Aussie Millions
"320!" announced Antoine Bechara as he pushed all of his chips into the pot.
Justin Cohen in the small blind was the only player to really consider a call, but like the players before him, he also passed.
"He hasn't played in four hours!" stated Cohen to his friends on the rail.
"Four-and-a-half!" responded Bechara as he stacked his new found chips.
If you've had a chance to take a look at the prizepool on the payouts page, you will notice that every amount has some odd-change on the end of it.
$220, $120, $70 or $20, regardless of the exact amount, you may all be wondering why the staff here conducting the 2011 Aussie Millions have created the prizepool in this way, instead of the clean payouts tournaments have come to expect.
Well, Australia recently had a disastrous flood strike the north-eastern state of Queensland creating millions of dollars in damage, destroying thousands upon thousands of homes, and unfortunately seeing many lives lost.
Although the worst of the conditions may be behind us, the majority of Queenslanders and their communities have been completely devastated by this natural disaster.
With many people needing their whole lives rebuilt, people from around Australia and the world have been donating at will to help Queensland pick themselves up and get back on track once the water - that at points has risen over the two metre (close to ten feet) mark - decreases to a manageable level.
Consequently, Crown Casino is looking to do their part in the Queensland Flood Relief program and have placed collection tins at eighty locations throughout the complex - from the poker room, retail stores, restaurant and bars - with all funds being raised being directly donated to the Queensland Premier's Disaster Relief Appeal fund via the Salvation Army.
Here in the poker room, their hope is that when people cash out during the Aussie Millions, that they will donate the odd change of their payouts (and hopefully) more to the cause - and whatever is collected (from all the collection tins around the complex), Crown Casino will match dollar-for-dollar!
So even if the Queensland floods haven't directly affected you, please help by donating some change or a few big blinds to the cause, and if you can't get down to the Crown Casino during the Aussie Millions, information on how to donate to the Queensland Flood Relief can be found here.
Justin Cohen opened to 150,000 from under the gun with Nik Lackovic making the call from the big blind.
The flop fell and Cohen fired out a continuation bet of 250,000 which Lackovic called before check-folding to Cohen's 520,000-chip all in as the landed on the turn.
Cohen is now up to 1,375,000 in chips as Lackovic slips to 1,700,000.
Martin Drewe opened for his standard min-raise of 100,000 and Vito Dalessandri defended from the big blind.
The board was checked down to see Drewe fire out 180,000 on the river to force a fold from Dalessandri.
Drewe is now up to 2,800,000 in chips.
Action folded to Martin Drewe on the button, who promptly min-raised.
"Well you've sucked me in havn't you?", Antoine Bechara said as he made the call.
Flop:
Bechara checks. Drewe bets 80,000. Bechara calls.
Turn:
Bechara checks. Drewe bets 120,000. Bechara folds.
Drewe takes down the pot!
Martin Drewe opened to 100,000 from the hi-jack only to have Antoine Bechara move all in for 465,000.
Drewe paused, contemplated, ummed and ahhed and then eventually folded to see Bechara claim a small, but very valuable pot.
Martin Drewe opened the cutoff - with some confidence after his previous hand double - to a min-raise of 100,000.
Vito Dalessandri defended his big blind to see a flop fall with both players opting to tap the table as a check.
The found its way on the turn, and again both players passed it through as the spiked on the river.
Dalessandri paused for a few moments before sliding out a bet of 350,000 to force a fold from Drewe.
As Dalessandri collected the pot, he moved to roughly 1,110,000 in chips.
Martin Drewe has just doubled through the chip-leader, moving his stack to 2,400,000 while Darren Kramer slips to 2,950,000.
Drewe managed to have his hold up, with no king or queen coming to help Kramer's .
Drewe lives to see another hand.
