Hansen Under 200K; Smirnov Over One Million

On the first hand back from the break, Gus Hansen raised from the button to 22,000. The chip leader Mikhail Smirnov called from the small blind and the flop came down {K-Hearts}{6-Clubs}{4-Hearts}. Smirnov checked and Hansen checked.

The turn was the {7-Diamonds} and Smirnov bet 25,000. Hanse made the call to see the {10-Diamonds} land on the river. After Smirnov checked, Hansen fired 51,000. Smirnov called.

"You got it," said Hansen. "I have a jack."

Hansen meant he had jack high and then Smirnov tabled the {J-Hearts}{10-Clubs} for a pair of tens. Smirnov won the pot and Hansen dropped to under 200,000 in chips.

Dan Smith

On the last hand before the break, Mikhail Smirnov raised to 15,000 from under the gun. Dan Smith called on the button and then Gus Hansen called from the big blind. The three players then took the {K-Hearts}{5-Hearts}{2-Hearts} flop and action checked over to Smith. He bet 18,500 and Hansen called. Smirnov folded.

The turn card was red, but not another heart as the {9-Diamonds} was added to the board. Hansen checked and Smith bet 36,500. Hansen called.

The river card was the {3-Diamonds} — once again red, but not a heart. Hansen checked and Smirnov bet 77,500. Hansen gave it up and Smith won the pot.

Smirnov Can't Best Hansen

Level 7 : 3,000/6,000, 0 ante

From the small blind, Gus Hansen raised to 16,500 and Mikhail Smirnov called from the big blind. The flop came down {K-Spades}{9-Diamonds}{6-Hearts} and Hansen bet 22,000. Smirnov made the call.

The turn was the {9-Hearts} and Hansen checked. Smirnov bet 44,500 and Hansen made the call.

The river completed the board with the {2-Diamonds} and Hansen checked. Smirnov checked behind.

Hansen showed the {K-Diamonds}{5-Hearts} for kings and nines with the six kicker on board. Smirnov couldn't produce better and mucked his hand, allowing Hansen to pick up the pot.

Sorel Mizzi Eliminated in 6th Place

Level 6 : 2,500/5,000, 0 ante
Sorel Mizzi - 6th place
Sorel Mizzi - 6th place

Mikhail Smirnov and Sorel Mizzi got tangled up in a preflop raising war that left Mizzi all in and racing for his tournament life. His {Q-Hearts} {Q-Clubs} was a slight favorite to keep him alive, but Smirnov's {A-Hearts} {K-Hearts} was drawing live for the knockout.

The {4-Clubs} {J-Hearts} {5-Hearts} flop was a shaky start for Mizzi as he now had to fade another set of outs. The red {4-Diamonds} was a scary-but-safe turn, and Tony G yelled out for a "HEART!" on the river. It came. The {2-Hearts} was the kiss of death for Mizzi, ushering him to the exit in sixth place.

We're now on a quarter-million dollar bubble with five players left and only room for four at the payout desk.
