Ducks Prevail for Hansen

Phil Ivey opened for 50,000 from early position only to have Gus Hansen move all in from the button for 199,000. Ivey made the call and it was off to the races.

Showdown

Ivey{A-Diamonds}{K-Clubs}
Hansen{2-Diamonds}{2-Hearts}

The room was the most excited it has been for an hour, and the railbirds were on their feet as the flop came down {q-Spades}{10-Diamonds}{8-Spades}. Ivey picked up a gut-shot straight draw to go along with his over, but neither the {3-Spades} turn nor {9-Spades} river helped him Hansen survived the hand and doubled to 400K.

We Have a Flop

Level 11 : 12,000/24,000, 3,000 ante

Action folded around to Daniel Negreanu in the cutoff and he opened for 50,000. Gus Hansen defended from the big blind and then checked the {4-Diamonds}{4-Hearts}{5-Hearts} flop. Negreanu tossed out a bet, Hansen folded, and that was the end of that.

We know it ain't much, but it's all we got, man!

Raise and Take It

Level 11 : 12,000/24,000, 3,000 ante

In the last hand, action folded around to Sorel Mizzi on the button and he raised to 50,000. Winfred Yu folded his small blind and Daniel Negreanu folded the big. That is the sort of thing that's been happening in the last 15 minutes.

Back to the Grind

Level 11 : 12,000/24,000, 3,000 ante

Much like when we came back from our last break, action has slowed. The plan is to play down to a winner no matter how long it takes, which makes sense considering Crown officials need Studio 3 and the Main Stage for the Main Event final table, which is scheduled to take place 10 hours from now.

Mizzi Busts Bloom Just Before the Break

Tony Bloom - 7th place
Tony Bloom - 7th place

In the last hand before the break, Tony Bloom was all in preflop holding {A-Spades}{8-Clubs} and behind the {J-Clubs}{J-Diamonds} of Sorel Mizzi. The {J-Spades}{10-Spades}{6-Diamonds} flop put Bloom even further behind, but the {Q-Diamonds} turn did give him some hope as he could make a straight with a king on the river. Unfortunately for him, it was not in the cards as the {6-Spades} blanked.

Bloom was dispatched in seventh place while Mizzi chipped up to 904,000.

Negreanu Flops a King to Send Smith to the Rail

Dan Smith out in 8th place
Dan Smith out in 8th place

We didn't see the action, but we do know that a short-stacked Dan Smith got all in preflop holding {Q-Spades}{Q-Hearts} and was up against the {K-Diamonds}{9-Diamonds} of Daniel Negreanu. The {K-Clubs} in the window was disaster for Smith, and was followed by the {A-Clubs}{7-Diamonds}. Suddenly Smith went from the favorite in the hand to needing a queen in order to survive.

Unfortunately for the winner of the $100,000 Challenge, the {J-Diamonds} turn and {7-Clubs} river was not what he needed and he was eliminated in eighth place.
