Welcome To Tom Grigg's World!

Tom Grigg
Tom Grigg

All right. So Tom Grigg got moved from his initial table with Taylor von Kriegenbergh and JC Tran. You would think chances of things getting better is pretty big, but he drew the short straw. Grigg got owned pretty bad by the seating cards as he ending up getting the seat directly to the right of Jason Mercier and Tom Dwan.

So Grigg's day was looking to be full of playing tight and waiting for good spots, but things couldn't have been more different. The craziness started when a player raised pre flop and both blinds defended, Grigg was in the big blind. The flop came down {10-Clubs}{10-Diamonds}{10-Hearts} and both blinds checked to the initial raiser, he bet 4,200 and Grigg called. On the turn the {5-Spades} popped up and Grigg checked once more. His opponent grabbed for chips once again and threw out 7,800. Grigg was in a raising mood and made it 21,600 after which his opponent called.

The river was the {Q-Diamonds} and Grigg counted out a hefty 36,700 bet with around 65,000 left behind. His opponent tanked for ages but finally ended up calling. Grigg tabled with {10-Spades}{9-Spades} for quads and his opponent shrugged as he mucked his cards. "He told me afterwards he had aces, it's impossible to fold that there", Grigg said with some honest sympathy.

The Grigg train kept rolling as his opponent from the previous hand raised it to 6,700. The move may have seemed a bit tilty, and Grigg decided to play back at him once more. From the small blind he three-bet to 16,600 and his opponent shoved all-in. Grigg didn't notice this at first and thought he heard 'fold'. After a little confusion both players tabled their hands and we witnessed the following showdown.

Tom Grigg{K-Spades}{9-Hearts}
Opponent{A-Hearts}{K-Hearts}

The flop brought out {K-Diamonds}{9-Spades}{J-Diamonds} and Grigg seemed to feel sorry for his opponent right away. The turn ({5-Clubs}) and river ({Q-Diamonds}) didn't change the outcome, and Grigg send a very disappointed player to the rail.

After the small blind you get the button, and Grigg made use of that right away. Attacking two of the most difficult big blinds in the tournament, Mercier and Dwan, he opted to make it 2,500. Both players didn't feel like giving up and we saw three-way action to the flop.

It came down {K-Clubs}{6-Diamonds}{4-Spades} and after two checks Grigg threw out 3,600. Mercier tanked for a while and finally came up with a raise to 8,300. Even Dwan seemed to be considering more than just a fold, but after a good thirty seconds he gave up his hand. It was now back on Grigg who glanced over at Mercier's stack before making it 14,400. Mercier flicked in the call and that got us to the turn.

The turn was the {J-Clubs} and quickly both players checked. On the river the {A-Clubs} appeared and Mercier check for the third time into Grigg who grabbed chips. The Aussie wanted more and counted out 21,600. Mercier started counting down his stack and figured out he would have around 37,000 chips left behind if he called and lost. After a good minute he called and Grigg immediately tabled {K-Spades}{4-Clubs} for two pair. Mercier kept a straight face as he threw his cards towards the muck.

Tom Grigg looked stunned by all the pots he was winning and laughed as he stacked his new chips. With 320,000 he is now the chip leader, both Dwan and Mercier will have to worry about him more than the other way around. Grigg is still out of position against two of the top players in the world, but what a day he is having so far!
