Brian Arbaugh Eliminated in 6th Place ($37,941)

Level 25 : 25,000/50,000, 50,000 ante
Brian Arbaugh
Brian Arbaugh

Johnny Landreth was in the hijack and raised to 175,000 with {j-Clubs}{8-Clubs}. Brian Arbaugh was on the button with {a-Hearts}{4-Hearts} and three-bet to 300,000, roughly one-third of his stack. The blinds folded and Landreth called, bringing the flop {7-Spades}{q-Spades}{8-Hearts} where Landreth checked and then called Arbaugh's continuation-bet of 175,000.

The turn came {7-Diamonds} and Landreth checked again. Arbaugh jammed for his last 435,000 and Landreth immediately called. No ace came on the river {9-Hearts} and Arbaugh finished in sixth place as a result.

Jake Ferro raised to 115,000 in the hijack with {q-Diamonds}{j-Spades} and received a call from Stephen Strout in the small blind with {q-Clubs}{10-Clubs}. Action went heads up to a flop of {a-Spades}{a-Hearts}{q-Spades} and Strout check-shoved his remaining 235,000 into the middle over Ferro's continuation-bet of 75,000, which Ferro called.

Strout was drawing only to running tens or a broadway card to chop it, but none came as the turn {4-Hearts} and river {8-Hearts} completed the runout to bring his elimination in seventh place.

Landreth Turns a Set

Level 25 : 25,000/50,000, 50,000 ante

Action folded to Kyle Cartwright on the button and he opened to 100,000 with {q-Spades}{q-Diamonds}. Johnny Landreth called in the small blind with {7-Spades}{7-Diamonds} as did Stephen Strout in the big blind with {9-Diamonds}{8-Spades}.

Everybody checked the flop {a-Diamonds}{j-Hearts}{4-Spades} and the turn came {7-Clubs}, giving Landreth a set. He bet 100,000 and was called only by Cartwright. Landreth bet another 150,000 on the river {10-Clubs} and Cartwright looked him up, only to see his queens were no good at showdown.

The bestbet Jacksonville Spring Series Event #5 was a $360 buy-in No-Limit Hold'em Monster Stack that drew 194 entries to create a $59,170 prize pool, and Billy Cashwell made like his name as he bested the field to claim the $13,784 that was up top.

Twenty-five players made it into the money, and when that number became eight, Stephen Randy of Barnesville OH was the first elimination of the final table, earning $1,718. All remaining players then locked up at least $2,000, with local favorite Kelly Slay finding herself the next out in seventh.

Fourth-place finisher Alan Franco made the final table of this event for the second consecutive series, finishing two rungs higher on the payout ladder than his sixth-place finish in January's Winter Open.

Dustin Holladay
Dustin Holladay

Dustin Holladay open-jammed for 265,000 in the cutoff with {a-Spades}{k-Diamonds} and David Johnson re-jammed on the button for 1.02 million with {j-Hearts}{j-Diamonds}. Brian Arbaugh had {k-Spades}{q-Clubs} in the small blind and got a count for Holladay's stack. He thought for over a minute and then called all in for 345,000.

Holladay Runs Into a Bigger Pair

Level 24 : 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante

Brian Arbaugh opened the action with a raise to 80,000 under the gun with {a-Hearts}{5-Hearts} and was three-bet to 425,000 by Jake Ferro in middle position. Dustin Holladay had {q-Diamonds}{q-Clubs} in the small blind and called, prompting a fold from Arbaugh.

Action checked through the flop {3-Clubs}{a-Clubs}{7-Clubs} and the turn came {j-Clubs}, completing both players' flush draws. Holladay checked and Ferro bet 165,000. Holladay check-raised to 330,000 and Ferro called.

The river fell {10-Clubs} and Holladay reached for chips once more. He bet 200,000, nearly one-third of his stack and Ferro took a few moments, looking back at his cards before raising to 400,000. Holladay found himself unable to fold and was left with under 300,000 after his second nuts was also second best.

Cartwright Gets Value from Strout

Level 24 : 20,000/40,000, 40,000 ante

The second hand of the final table saw Kyle Cartwright open to 80,000 on the button with {a-Diamonds}{8-Clubs} and Stephen Strout three-bet to 155,000 in the big blind with {10-Spades}{10-Hearts}. Cartwright called.

The flop came {8-Hearts}{5-Spades}{8-Diamonds} and Strout continuation-bet 190,000. Cartwright called. Strout checked the turn {6-Spades} and Cartwright bet 165,000, which Strout called. The river fell {4-Spades} and Strout checked again. Cartwright slid another 290,000 forward onto the felt and Strout thought for close to a minute before finding a call, resulting in Cartwright tabling his trip eights to take down the pot.
