March Poker Mania Profiles: Meet Pennsylvania's Matt Berkey
BetMGM March Poker Mania Pennsylvania host Matt Berkey needs no introduction in the poker community as he has been a high-stakes cash game and tournament crusher for years.
A proud "Yinzer," Berkey never shies away from his blue-collar Pittsburgh roots and can frequently be heard on podcasts and social media telling stories about putting ketchup on every food imaginable or explaining how a person's jelly preference can tell you about their upbringing.
Berkey's success in live tournaments has earned him $4.3 million in earnings, per The Hendon Mob, including a career-best fifth-place finish in $300,000 No-Limit Hold'em at the 2016 Super High Roller Bowl that earned him a coveted seven-figure score worth $1.1 million.
Other big scores by Berkey, who got his first recorded cash back in 2006, include a victory a $25,000 Aria High Roller in 2015 for $315,180, as well as a third-place finish in the 2017 Seminole Hard Rock Poker Open $5,250 SHRPO Championship, which earned him $341,618.
Berkey has also had success in the poker training realm with his site Solve For Why, where he and other pros teach players how to become elite on the live felt. Solve For Why also produces the unique "Poker Out Loud" show, where well-known poker players wear noise-canceling headphones and talk through their thought processes during hands.
During March Poker Mania, the Pennsylvanian high-stakes pro will host online poker giveaways and stream March Poker Mania events beginning March 24. Berkey will also live stream several cash games and handicap college basketball on the Solve for Why YouTube channel.
