Anton Wigg Leads Final 14 of BWPO $5,100 High Roller with $100,829 Up Top
The first day of Event #22: $5,100 High Roller has come to a close after 14 action-packed levels of play here at the Borgata Hotel, Casino & Spa and a total of 77 slips were sold with just 14 remaining at the end of the night. Sweden's Anton Wigg is sitting atop the leaderboard with a 1,200,000 stack.
A rocky start is the best way to describe Wigg's beginning on Day 1, losing most of his stack just before the first break of the day when Raul Martinez spiked an ace to beat the pocket kings of Wigg, leaving him with just a third os the starting stack.
The Stockholm, Sweden native fought back and by the time the next break came around he was sitting in the top three with five times his starting stack. Wigg found his biggest pot of the night during the last level when he nailed a flush against Mike Meskin to take the lead in this event, a lead that he held onto by night's end.
Rounding out the top five stacks are Jonathan Dokler (918,000), Robert Brobyn (784,000), Chris Sparks (760,000), and Canada's Qi Hu (717,000). Hu is hot off a victory just two days ago when he took down Event #17: $3,125 Heads-Up for his second-best career cash of $67,512 along with his first Borgata trophy.
The bigger buy-in brought a star-studded field to life, with a total of 77 entries accumulated over the span of a 10-level late registration period. That number turned into a $373,450 prize pool for the players to battle for with the top 11 finding at least a min-cash of $9,336 and the eventual winner pulling in a cool $100,829 to go along with their new Brogata Trophy. The remaining 14 players will be returning at noon tomorrow to play it out until a champion is crowned.
Notable names that will be gunning for that six-figure cash on Day 2 include Justin Liberto (697,000), Nitis Udornpim (661,000), Ian O'Hara (481,000), and the well-known Jerry Wong (303,000).
That wraps it up for the PokerNews Day 1 coverage of this event but tune in tomorrow for all of the updates on Day 2.
