Seidel Strikes First

Level 22 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante

On the first hand of heads up play, Erik Seidel raised to 80,000 on the button and Chino Rheem called. The flop was {7-Diamonds}{8-Diamonds}{q-Clubs}, Rheem checked and Seidel continued for 100,000. Rheem called and the {10-Hearts} turn was checked twice.

The river was the {8-Hearts} and Rheem led for 175,000 which was called by Seidel. The {a-Spades}{q-Hearts} of Seidel was good enough to ship the pot and start his heads up battle in the right direction.

From the small blind, Jason Mercier raised all in. Erik Seidel called from the big blind holding the {K-Clubs}{J-Clubs}. Mercier held the {9-Clubs}{8-Diamonds}. Mercier was all in for under 600,000.

The flop came down {6-Spades}{5-Clubs}{4-Spades} and Mercier whiffed so far, although he did pick up some extra outs to a gutshot straight.

The turn brought the {6-Hearts} to pair the board and then the river landed with the {10-Diamonds}. All five community cards missed Mercier and he was eliminated from play.

Seidel is now heads up with Chino Rheem and has successfully landed himself in the top spot on the Global Poker Index rankings list.

Seiborg Does it Again

Level 22 : 20,000/40,000, 5,000 ante

Chino Rheem folded the button and Jason Mercier raised to 90,000 from the small blind. Erik Seidel three-bet to 220,000 and after some thought Mercier moved all in. Seidel immediately called putting his own tournament life at risk.

Mercier: {5-Hearts}{5-Spades}
Seidel: {a-Diamonds}{k-Clubs}

The flop hit Seidel right away when it landed {k-Diamonds}{6-Hearts}{j-Spades}. Brent Hanks asked the dealer for at least something that looked like a five and she delievered. The turn was the {4-Diamonds} drawing a moan from the crowd. However, that didn't quite get Mercier there, nor did the {9-Spades} river.

After counting out Seidel's stack, Mercier shipped over 1.2 million, leaving himself with just 665,000. Rheem is still our chip leader with about 3.7 million.
