On Friday, Season 12 of the European Poker Tour continued from Casino Barcelona with the 10,300 High Roller event. Players turned out for 10 60-minute levels of play, and at the end of the day it was Ping San Chan who bagged the chip lead with 367,500.

By choosing to participate in this tournament, each player helped to form EPT history. With the massive player turnout, this event became the largest of its kind. At the end of the night, the clock read that there were a total of 479 entires over the course of the first day. This smashed the previous record of 393 entries, which was set by this very event in Barcelona last year. What's more is that the field size is expected to increases even further, as registration and reentry remain open until the start of Day 2.

While Chan bagged the top stack in the room, others are hot on his heels heading into the second day of play. France's Nathan Gozlan finished in second place overall, and rounding out the top three was Wilfried Harig.

The field remains stacked with familiar faces and notable professionals, plus we could see a few more enter tomorrow after skipping out on Day 1. Those who had a successful first day included Adrian Mateos (237,800), Aleksandr Denisov (223,000), Fedor Holz (211,800), Leo Fernandez (189,500), Vanessa Selbst (182,400), Nicholas Rampone (174,000), 2014 WSOP Main Event champion Martin Jacobson (161,500), Vitaly Lunkin (141,100), Benny Spindler (138,500), and Christoph Vogelsang (125,900).

While these players thrived throughout the day, others were not as fortunate. Some of those sent to the rail throughout the course of the day included 2013 WSOP Main Event champion Ryan Riess, Bertrand "ElkY" Grospellier, Farid Jattin, Simon Ravnsbaek, Max Silver, and David Vamplew. If those players haven't already done so, they will have the option to reenter, but the event only allows for a single reentry.

Play will resume on Saturday at 12:30 p.m. local time, when the returning 214 players will be joined on the felt by any late registrants. The tournament is schedule to play another full 10 levels, with an early stop coming only if an official final table of eight is reached.

Be sure to return to PokerNews for all of the latest from this record-breaking tournament.
